Hi!
My son is as far as I'm aware not freakishly large, strong etc and yet he has broken 6 Ergobaby Evolve bouncers (different faults each time hence trying them multiple times) and 1 maxi cosi Dove. He's well within age and weight range on both.
I'm scouring google and coming up with next to nothing! Most go upto 9kg only or around 9 months old, tons up to 6mths old.
He just loves bouncing though! Just bought the maxi cosi rocker and its not great and very different to a bounce, but we felt worth a go!.
The most close to what I think i need is a bouncer for special needs children, I have zero issue with that but very pricey, doesn't fold (not end of the world) but it seems ludicrous to me we're even having this problem, any help or recommendations greatly appreciated!

How old is he?? You’ve put toddler in the title but the bouncer you’ve said you bought is for babies. Not common for a child who can sit unaided to be using one of those.

No the brand is Ergobaby, and to be fair most are called baby bouncers but Ergobaby and the Maxi cosi Dove state up to toddler, maxi cosi is up to 15kg and my son who is 17mths is only 10.5kg, well within the parameters.
He likes to bounce, I've bought products that cater beyond his age and size and they've broken. I just want recommendations from anyone who knows of a better bouncer/had a similar issue etc.

17 months? Id buy a (age aporopiate) trampoline, a rocking horse, or a rocking chair (like, an old fashioned wooden one).

Buy a trampoline with a handle on it.

He uses it to soothe himself and also sleep, I don't see the issue with that tbh

Should add that he likes to sit and bounce, he enjoys it and it soothes him to sleep. Hence not going down a rocking horse/chair and trampoline route and as I also mentioned in OP the rocking motion isn't cutting it, he likes to bounce.

The whole idea of a bouncer is for small children for short times, the reason they only go to a certain age is they are not recommended for stinting growth and leg muscles etc. There's sections everywhere with a simple Google as to why he should not be in a bouncer now wether weight comes first or age

GloriaHeeler · 03/04/2026 17:20

Then get him a rocking chair.

JumpLeadsForTwo · 03/04/2026 17:31

Yes, not great for his leg/ pelvic muscles. If he gets used to bouncing to sleep, how are you going to manage when he’s 3?

mumofoneAloneandwell · 03/04/2026 17:33

I can relate, my dd loved to bounce

At almost 7, she still loves jumping

I remember being up at stupid o'clock bouncing her to sleep 😄😄😄

I think though that hes too old for the bouncer, sorry

Mt563 · 03/04/2026 17:44

Unfortunately, as they get older we have to accept that some things have to change, even if they've worked well in the past. At some point he needs to soothe and sleep and get energy out without a bouncer. It seems that time has come.

3luckystars · 03/04/2026 17:58

He is too big for a bouncer he is a toddler!

As I stated, I bought bouncers that are for his age and weight.

Thank you very much! I think this would be perfect until he grows out of bouncing or i can wean him off it, these things don't change over night sadly, thank you again! 😊

I would go down the SEN bouncers route.

Whilst your DS is within weight his use of it is not within the parameters of how it is designed. Most bouncers go up to 6 or 9 months max, the weight limit is for the "chonkier" babies. Babies however bounce in the bouncer differently to a toddler - they don't have the same co-ordination levels and understanding of cause and effect so don't build up momentum like your toddler will. Your toddler knows how to move to make the bouncer bounce, most babies are still figuring that out and so don't build the bouncing momentum.

A SEN bouncer is designed for a child who knows how to make the bouncer go and will withstand the momentum. They are also better designed for prolonged bouncing. They will also likely have better harnesses/ straps that will be more age appropriate for him and therefore safer.
