How much follow on milk?

DS now 6 months and weaning but is a big boy and ALWAYS hungry!

Before anyone starts yes I am aware they advise there is 'no need' for follow on milk and it was an advertising ploy to get around the fact you cannot advertise first formulas....but i can earn points on it and every penny counts at the moment.

My question is if DS is drinking 210ml per bottle on first formula, how much would he have on follow on. The first formula tin has directions for 60mls/scoops through to 300ml....however the following on milk only has for 150ml/180ml. Does this mean they need less/fills them up more?

I thought you just offered the same amount for a while? They’ll naturally start to reduce bottles as they take more solids.

once they drop to under 600 ml a day you’ll need to give a daily vitamin and you’re aiming for an intake of 450 ml by 10 months, but that’s a long way off at the moment Wink

I think the reason people say it’s a marketing ploy is because they’re almost identical so I just give them whatever they were having before.

I literally chop and change between first formula and follow-on depending on what is on offer (now the advertising restrictions have been lifted)

The same. It’s no different really, just made from a slightly different milk protein, which is relatively meaningless from a nutritional standpoint. You treat it the same as first milk.

You give whatever you have been giving. By 7/8 months, reduce to allow for more solid intake IF you think baby is just filling up on formula.

The scam about follow-on formula is for 12 months+, that's my understanding. They advertise these things making parents think they need to buy this stuff after age 1 when they really don't need it anymore and a glass of cow's milk is enough.
