Question about trapped wind in 3 month old

BlossomMills · 01/04/2026 21:45

DS is 3 months old, he's feeding 6 ounces up to 3-4 hours between feeds (this has been recommended by health visitor)

He is getting very bad wind and when it comes he will cry uncontrollably,

I feel helpless

Does anyone have experience with bad wind?

How do you know it’s wind? Has the HV recommended the amount of feed or the schedule? Just wondering why he’s not fed responsively. Could he be over fed? Sounds like a big feed. Little and often is gentler on their tummies. Hard to advise without knowing the Hv’s rationale.

Have you tried exercises, ie cycling legs?

I also fed responsively as above.

No advice really sorry but we are in the same boat. DD has just been inconsolable for an hour. She is breast fed so less likely to be CMPA but I’m going to cut dairy from my diet anyway and see if it helps, not sure if this could be the case for your little one?
We’ve been using infacol which does seem to help get burps up but it also makes her more sicky and she’s still struggling with the wind so not even sure it’s worth the hassle! Friends have sworn by coleif which might be of use to you if you’re bottle feeding? It was too much faff for me because you have to express milk and put the drops in waiting 15 mins then she then wouldn’t take the solution anyway..
My mum said gripe water was brilliant but they need 5mls and she wouldn’t take that either so it was a battle. Apparently a lot of babies like the taste but not mine 😅
It’s so hard when they scream and you feel powerless to help them, I hope something works for you soon! ❤

Seen so many YouTube videos of massages and leg movements supposed to help . Maybe give them a try . Or check teats some are designed to be better at avoiding air swallowing.
