my DD aged 16 has had abdominal pain on and off over the last 18 months , she says its about a 7 or 8 when its there but this goes on for weeks and sometimes she has weeks without it , these are not related to the times she has her period , we've been to the gp multiple times but getting no answers , her periods aren't regular so she has started taking lucette 2 weeks ago . she has a ultrasound 18 months ago showed nothing , would it be worth getting another one . she also has recurring utis we have been to the urologists but again there's nothing wrong with her they say
any ideas ?

Re the UTI’s, does she wear g strings? They can contribute in some women.
Has she kept a food diary to identify a trigger for the abdo pain, or been tested for coeliac or crohn’s or anything?

Are the UTIs being diagnosed by dipstick or on the basis of symptoms only?

My DD had regular stomach pains and it turned out to be anxiety related. Is she particularly worried about anything?

Abdo pain can be tricky to narrow down.

endo and gynae pain is often period related. If you are sure it isn’t then that is unlikely.

bowels are also quite likely. Try a food diary - I had lactose intolerance and worked it out at about the same age. Maybe worth trying cutting out the most common intolerances and see if it makes a difference - you’ll need a month or so if she’s been eating stuff she is intolerant to for a long time.

In the past I have found that taking a daily D-Mannose supplement has been a helpful tool for preventing recurrent UTIs and needing antibiotics. Might be worth doing some research on that if it's not something you're already aware of? My experience was that the GP had never heard of it and the urologist didn't have an issue with me using it.

@OtterMummy2024 just based on symptoms
@TinyMouseTheatre she doesn't say she is but its hard to know
@Octavia64 she had a lactose test and coeliac but all fine , we will try and food diary and see thank you

@LightBlueJeans that's what she's been taking for over 2 months now

Some things like CMPA can only be diagnosed through elimination which is probably why a food diary would help Smile

I would second D mannose I had a run of utis recently after not having one for decades and it does seem to be doing the trick.

other common intolerances are coffee, alcohol, citrus, see here for more info
