Baby personality

DC2 is 5 months and shrieks with excitement whenever we’re out and she’s in either the pram or bassinet (we use both depending on what we’re doing). She’s so loud and people always comment. In general she’s a content baby.

My DC1 was a nightmare baby - pure colicky and cried non stop. I guess she must have been in some sort of pain. As a toddler she’s great but I’d say she is maybe more reserved and considered than some toddlers.

Therefore dc2s shrieking really stands out. Do you think this could be personality based?

No. Personality forms over time. How my DC were as babies isn't really how their personalities continued.

Yeah definitely. My DS' personality was definitely obvious from when he was a baby, as silly as it may sound. And there is evidence that a lot (by no means all) of your personality is dictated by genes.

My first dc was loud and loved to move around
my bffs first dc was quiet and happy to sit still,
theyre both still the same now

however my dh and I are loud and active and my friend and her dh are more reserved. So maybe it’s personality, maybe it’s environmental, maybe it’s what they see modelled. Your second dc probably sees a more animated and child based world than your first dc did for example.

it reads like you might be worried though?

Yes absolutely babies are born with a certain temperament which will show in how they sleep, feed, how much they cry, how loud they are, how clingy they are etc. I think personality develops as they grow but is driven by their temperament. Encourage her excitement! Especially with a girl, she needs to learn to make her voice heard

Yes I can see personality traits in my dc from when they were babies. My dd was alert inquisitive and my ds was more laid back. Very similar years on

My experience is varied. Ds1 was over excited, never slept and wriggly non stop. He was an incredibly difficult toddler, hyper and daft, but had adhd and is a teen athlete now. Still high and demanding in a different way. Ds2 was gentle and affectionate, attached to me and often fearful. He still is a gentle soul and a home bird that doesn't like too much socialising. DD2 was the sweetest little newborn but miserable from a few months, never smiled and cried a lot. An allergy was eventually discovered, poor pet was in pain. She was very mischievous as a toddler and young child, silly and fun loving and now is only 12 but is a calm sensible sort. I honestly don't really know what personality she will have. I changed totally as a teen, like full 360 so you never know.
