Anyone go past size 6 nappies?

Our DS is 22 months and a big boy (healthy!!! not fat! he is in proportion - see profile )

he is around 35 lbs and in size 6 nappies. We are thinking of potty training but arent sure he is ready. If he is not then I worry we wont be able to get nappies to fit him. Fewer and fewer shops are stocking size 6 nappies now - we only know of one in around 4 in our local area that have them! They all used to have them but gradually they have gone and the biggest they go is size 5.

So what do you do if you have a big toddler who isnt ready to potty train?????

He is probably not going to get much wider, they generally grow upwards from now on. Size 5 fit my average weight 5 year old.

Try a different brand. Morrisons are large, ime

5's seemed to pinch him at the tummy so that is why we moved up to 6. Also the 5's leaked a lot more - I assumed he is doing bigger wees now? Has been in size 6 for around... 4 months I should think.

I'm glad you posted this, as I have a whopper of a boy and have been wondering the same thing.

I have a 4 yr old who is not potty trained... he is in lidl pull ups(largest size) which are the roomiest I have found, they have lots of give, they are comfy and give him good coverage, which I can't say is true for other size six pull ups/nappies...

I do think you might find your ds starts stretching now and instead of getting bigger round the middle he will probably get much slimmer with all the growing he will do in the next year, so you might not need bigger nappies.

Hmm... well there are no size 7's. So if he does not potty train soon I dont know what I will do. Though if SmugC is right it shouldnt be a problem. Here's hoping!

I've noticed that the Naturebaby size 5s that DS is in at the mo are noticeably more generous in the fit than the Sainsburys ones we were using, so prob worth trying diff brands. I know you mentioned size 6, but still...

For about 50% of the time DS is in cloth nappies, made by a local company they made some super duper toddler size for me, still plenty of room for growth in there - link is www.babeco.co.uk if you're interested.

size 6 go up to 30kg, which is about the size of an 8 / 9 year old so i wouldnt worry too much!

Huggies Pyjama Pants age 4-7 are a generous size. My 3.2 year old is in them at nights - he outgrew size 6 a while ago. Fortunately he's dry and clean by day.

nannyL · 18/06/2008 21:56

and huggies PJ pants do another size right up to 15 years / 50kg, though i think that must be the same size as adult 'tena pants' with just a pretier patern!

Hangingbellyofbabylon · 18/06/2008 22:07

My dd is nearly 4 and not dry at night - I find the pyjama pants aren't absorbant enough to last the night and so we are stuffing her into size 6 nappies but it's ridiculous and she won't fit them for much longer. I have thought about cloth but just can't afford the inital investment at the moment.

HBB - same here! Someone suggested using an extra layer like a wrap over the top of the nappy. Tried a Motherease training pant XL which has worked really well for us. It's the same sort of outer as a wrap but has a terry type lining so absorbs if the pj pant/size 6 leaks. Managing with just two so not a great outlay.
