Grandparent kissed 9-week-old’s hands with cold sore, HSV risk?

My husbands grandma kissed my 9 week olds hands with an active cold sore. We saw and immediately rubbed antibacterial hand gel and baby wipes into her hands and we don't think she put her hands in her mouth.
I am completely distraught. What are the chances she will contract HSV? Has anyone else had this happen and everything has been Ok?

When did this occur?
Its so inconsiderate of her and very selfish

Thats fine then, its needs an open source to enter like lips etc

Surely the back of the hand then wiped or sucked in the mouth would transfer the virus?

my grandma always used to tell people to kiss the top of the head as they won’t put that in their mouth. This was after a tragic death of a baby many years ago

Oh how awful of her. I think unless there are any little cuts on baby’s fingers then you should be ok - I get cold sores and have so many times had my baby whack his hand right into one while feeding or something, and stopping him from then touching his face with it until I’ve managed to clean his hand has so far worked to avoid passing them on. You can get ‘herpetic whitlow’ which is the virus on hands, if there is a cut - I assume this would be a lot less dangerous to a newborn than catching it on their face. Top of head is not really ok to kiss with an active cold sore either, so close to eyes.

I am sure you’ll be ok, but I know the worry. I hope she recognises that she did something wrong? I wouldn’t let her near the baby while she had any active sores personally!
