Wriggly baby resisting nappy changes: is it time to try pull-ups?

My LO is very close to walking and we've found that she has become wriggly and refuses to go on her back when we attempt to change her nappy.

We're wondering if this is a sign to try pull ups but wanted to ask any of you who have tried pull ups if this was a good change or not.

100% - you might have in your head that they are for potty training, but they are really just a different fastening. Do it!

I stayed with normal nappies but I used to change my DS standing up when he got like this.

We have started our 7 month old on pull ups and had no issues with them. She has strong legs and able to stand with support.

Personally I never understood the appeal of standing up nappy changes or pull ups, isn't it messy if they've pooed?
I like a quick change without taking shoes and trousers off too especially when we're out.

I didn‘t find the pull-ups as absorbent as the same brand‘s nappies. We did standing changes in the bathroom for a while, but that’s just as easy with a conventional nappy.
An interesting toy she only gets while lying down for a nappy change might be worth a try too.

Pull ups can be much easier once they reach the wiggly/standing up phase. No harm in trying.

Devilsmommy · 14/03/2026 21:43

For at home yes but when you're out it's a lot of faff having to completely take their trousers off

Tootiredcantsleep · 15/03/2026 00:32

Nappies when in trousers and tights. Pull ups when in skirts and dresses!

Paaseitjes · 15/03/2026 09:16

Nope. We tried that and it's impossible to get wriggly legs to stay in the holes so it's worse than normal ones! What works for us is a selection of toys on the coffee table and change standing. It will probably stop working once he can stand without holding on. Apparently he lies nicely at nursery. He hasn't lain nicely for us since he learnt to roll.

I don’t think pull ups are really easier for cleaning. The only benefit was when they were already able to stand and it was easier to replace a wet nappy, but when you’re out and they’re wearing trousers, shoes etc it’s harder and for poos it’s of no benefit.

You know you rip the sides right? So whilst I agree that they're more faff with trousers, because you have to take the trousers mostly off to put a new one on, I don't see what difference wee or poo makes.

This! Much easier to put on (lean into the big grown up boy with pants on!) but you just rip the sides and take off like a normal nappy?! Pinch the pull up as you take it off to get any solids, and give a good clean with wet wipes but they’re so so much easier!

Obviously it rips, but it’s the standing element, there’s a lot more inevitable poo transfer when they go in a nappy compared to how much gets covered when they poo on the potty.
Surely you aren’t doing a good clean if you’re taking off a pooy nappy and wiping standing up?

If you’re going to lie them down to rip off the pull up you might as well save some money and have regular nappies.
