Potty training struggles

Potty training my 3 year old is becoming a little problematic, it has got to the point where I think he was so traumatised at peeing himself in his pants and trousers that he holds it in. Yesterday he had an accident at home in the morning before pre school, when I collected him from school at 3:30 his key person told me that he hadn’t been all day, so he went approximately 8 hours without a wee, he was busting at school pick up, they allowed me in to try and get him to go in their toilets but nothing, and in a panic I put him in a pull up in the car on the way home. He was still holding it in and was too scared to go. When we got home yesterday I sat him on the toilet, got him to blow bubbles to help him relax, I tried making it into an game and still nothing. Eventually he ended up going in his pull up but he looked at me and said “oh no” thinking he was peeing himself like that morning, but not realising he had a pull up on.

Has anyone been through something similar and do you have any tips or tricks for me please, I am so stuck on what to do. Thanks in advance if I am not able to reply x

My dd was exactly the same as this. Sometimes she would wet herself on the way home from pre school. We tried everything- rewards chart, her using the teacher’s toilet etc etc. It carried on in reception (sorry!), but we discovered the issue at school was having to ask to go to the toilet. Now in Y1 they don’t have to ask and it’s not an issue.

I wouldn’t put a pull up on after pre school. Maybe take a travel potty to use if he is usually happy using that and use chocolate buttons as a bribe….
