Moving because of the abuse

So my family currently face nonstop racial abuse on our estate. My children can no longer go out to play on the street or on the local heath as they will inevitably be attacked and called p@#i's and other racist abuse (monkey, chocolate cake, stink of curry etc). I've gained 20kg as I've become a virtual shut it. I used to do 5k steps on the heath every morning but no longer go there. I'm trying to arrange a management move with my housing association and wanted to know anyone else's experience with this, how long did it take etc? Please share if you know anything about it.

Sorry you are going through this. Please report all incidents to the police every single time. This will build a picture of what is happening and how bad it is. That should push them to move you I hope.

Management moves aren’t really a thing with housing associations as they don’t have a stock of empty properties to move you into. So even if your circumstances are the absolute worst on their transfer list and you have maximum points you’ll have to wait for a house to become available with the same number of bedrooms that you’re in now. How many beds are you in at the moment?

You may get more movement by looking to do a mutual exchange. Look on the homeswapoer website. Moves arranged by the housing association, the length of time will vary between each different housing association and how urgent they have deemed your situation.

Yes, everything is reported. I have provided videos of incidents, witness statements etc. My housing association are waiting for a referral from the police to open the decision to a panel. The issues I'm experiencing with this process is no one from the housing association gives the same information. Some say I can stay in the same town, others say I can't. Im also in a two bedroom flat but overcrowded. A employee of the HA today told me I can request to be placed somewhere with more rooms but others are saying it's a like for like property. Of course I've tried to swap for almost over a year, but my flat is very undesirable (2 bed, far from town, subsidence, damp, mould) and never had interest. I have lived in a different part of the same town and didn't experience any such hate so want to stay in the town but my understanding is they send you to a different town? I work part time, study at a local college and my son goes to grammar school here so moving completely away would be hard also on our personal lives, it's more an issue with the estate I live on.

So you would need a three bed? You can look at the stock list for your HA and see how many they actually own. Then it’s a case of having the highest number of points on the list and a property becoming free.

Yes, we are 5 in a 2 bed. Do they show the stock on request? So you end up on a list something like the housing list?

Yes that’s right. If you need a 3 bed you’re more likely to get a move sooner than if you needed a 4 or 5 bed, simply because most HAs have more 3 beds than they do bigger homes.
