hi

this might be a really silly question but what should babies actually wear when you take them out if its not freezing?

its about 13 degrees here now but its meant to be like 16 later and it doesnt feel that cold. everyone always says newborns need loads of layers but his snowsuit feels way too warm for that weather.

hes 2 weeks old and ive only taken him out once before when we went to register him so i still feel a bit clueless about normal things like this.

would a vest, sleepsuit and a blanket be enough or does he need a coat aswell? hes in the pram with the cover thing if that makes a difference.

i just dont want him to be cold but also dont want him sweating in loads of layers if its actually quite mild.

sorry if this is obvious im still learning everything x

I found this really difficult to judge what to put them in too. I think I went with vest, sleep suit and blankets. I had extra blankets if I thought they were getting cold. Mine didn't have coats for ages.

Gnerally, one more layer than you, but don't forget that they don't move around much so can get cold very easily.
At this time of year I would still be putting them in a coat over vest, sleepsuit/top&trousers/tights - whichever outerwear your choose. Probably still a hat if outdoors.

I dont bother with a coat as he gets heat rash. I just take blankets and take and add as needed.

I agree with @SquirrelBlue

Mine only has a little coat now he's in the seat go the pram.
I'd also recommend the star fleeces, Claire de lune or tuppence and crumble - can usually pick up cheap on vinted or ebay. They are handy for the pram. Then you can add a regular blanket if needed on top.

My little one was born in summer so completely different, but wore a vest and sleepsuit for the first few months.
Id keep to light layers. Vest, sleepsuit, cardigain and a blanket that you could fold for an extra layer. Then you can strip them off as needed. If in a pram or car seat, remember that will "add a layer"
She didnt have a coat until she could walk. They overheat easily. Its better they are slightly too cold, than too warm.

Knitted cardigans are great for this sort of weather in my opinion, with blankets over legs in the pram.

I put them in sleeping bags at that age. Vest, sleep suit, thick sleeping bag and a blanket. That's equivalent to tshirt, jumper, coat +1. Pram suits and coats are a pain with little limbs. They can move more easily in a sleeping bag

One more layer than you and feel the back of the neck to see if warm ,don't go by hands and feet.

Think of it this way - in the house at 18 degrees C I would have a sleep suit, vest and jumper. This is colder (with maybe a cold breeze too), so I would recommend a coat on top (not snowsuit) and a blanket for their legs. Obviously you can take the blanket off if they get sweaty on their back from the sun.
