at what age did your boy know to ask for potty?

Help.

Am potty training DS (2.3) and he sits on the potty fine most times, especially if DH is going to the loo also.

I realise the next step here is that DS actually wees into the potty himself.

Then hopefully he will ask to use potty before he needs to wee, on a regular basis.

Please tell me, how did your DS make the leap from sitting unproductively on potty to making actual wees, and how long did it take till they knew "oh I need to wee, I need a potty"?

Thanks

tbh my eldest 2 never asked for the potty or toilet they just yelled "I NEED A WEEEEEEEEEE!"

It started off with them just wetting, then they would say i need a wee after they had wee'd, then during, and then they could tell me with enough time to walk to the toilet instead of tearing around in a flap!

Thx for the reply BlueDragonfly...when you say "just wetting" do you mean wetting into a normal nappy?

I'm really wondering when (if?) DS will ever realise he is weeing, unless I put him into pants!

no. i put them straight into pants. I left the nappies on for night time and for daytime sleeps but went straight to pants for actual training

its quicker that way imo!

ds1 was 2 and a half i think (he is now 5) and it took 3 days with him BUT we had had a precious attempt a few months earlier and neither of us was ready really

I did ds2 just before xmas so he would have been around 2 and a half as well - a bit older perhaps. and again, he was dry in 4 days. He had poo issues so that took a little while longer.

with both of them , i left night and nap nappies on until they asked for them off

there is abook lilkel called potty train in one week, where you basically shut out the world for a week and blitz it. It works for some and not for others though.

IIRC, we tried with huggies training pants, but they were too nappy like and didn't give him any incentive to "know" when he was weeing. We also used to do pants in the day, nappies for naps and night time. Lots of spare pants and clothes needed though, but thank heavens for tesco and the like!

thx for all the advice. have just ordered in some bright bots training pants - will give them a go and see if he notices anything!!
