I have been given the go ahead to open a library/loan service at church. I run a busy toddler group, so this library would serve not only the families in the church but the toddler group parents also.

The aim is to cover everything that you might come across in family life. From issues with your marriage to babies to toddlers all through childhood and into your teens.

Single parents, bereaved parents, step families.

Sleep problems, tantrum etc, etc etc..

I would like to try and cover every eventuality. So Please could you list any books/dvd's/cd's that you have found useful to you and your family.

Thank you very much in advance.

Thanx beansmum, from a quick glance they look good, will take the time to sift through them properly in a bit.

Apocalypse Now?

The napalm bit and the going mad ring some bells in my house anyway.

pinkdolly · 16/06/2008 20:48

I like "Raising Happy Children" by Jan Parker and Jan Stimpson - lovely, v positive and inclusive, lots of practical elements, non-judgmental.

pinkdolly · 16/06/2008 21:25

Thanx Mog, am keeping a note of all these so keep em coming.

I have used Sheila Kitzinger's Pregnancy and Childbirth book quite a lot, and also (though many people hate her) Gina Ford's books.

I'd like some books on divorce / church balance and being a single parent in a Christian setting

The 60 Minute books are good too (60 Minute Marriage/Father/Mother)

Also, Child of Our Time DVDs - I think they're a wealth of knowledge about the things kids do and go through

this is also good - a modern look at "waiting for the one" in a Christian relationship; handy to read with all the pressures around nowadays

Music-wise I'd like to see some contemporary stuff - Rebecca St James, Michael W Smith, Stephen Curtis Chapman, Matt Redman, Tim Hughes, Delerious, Tree63... to name a few!

Most of my parenting books have an Asperger slant but these are good general books:

Let's Talk About Sex by Robie H Harris.

The Unwritten Rules of Friendship.

Volcano In My Tummy.

It might be useful to have a couple of ASD books too, for concerned parents. I'd definitely recommend Tony Attwood's Complete Guide To Asperger Syndrome as a first start.
