Birthday gift for 8 year old son

Help! We’re really stuck on what to get our DS for his 8th birthday. He hasn’t shown a strong interest in anything recently and already has lots of Lego, Hot Wheels, etc. We don’t do gaming, he’s not keen on biking, isn’t a big reader, and Christmas wasn’t that long ago so it feels like he has everything already.
He does love Titanic, maps and non-fiction (he has an atlas and a world map). What gifts have gone down well with your 7–9 year olds? Any ideas would be very welcome. 🙏

Night vision goggles, football agility training / electronic scoring net, science experiments, joke books, remote control cars, board games, kids camera, robotics, telescope, snooker/pool table, rocket launcher, k’nex, metal detector, personalised clothing, vouchers for a day out, archery, claw machine / electronic arcade games from Smyth’s, basketball, table air hockey

Globe?

inappropriateraspberry · 26/02/2026 18:24

Thank you. We have a globe, lots of rc cars, science stuff, camera, games etc! I did wonder about a metal detector, telescope is also a good shout. He’s not into football much to his dad’s dismay 😆

Have you looked on Vinted for Titanic Gifts?

I have a boy just like this.

Board games - labyrinth is a good one.

Rubiks cube - we got a go cube as it’s interactive with an app (depending on whether you’re happy with that). He’ll sit in bed trying to figure it out (without the app).

Any of the smart games - like this https://amzn.eu/d/00USDSNx

Dino dig kits - messy but enjoyable.

How about a rock collection kit. We got this along with some sorting boxes. https://amzn.eu/d/03uQSEb0

Does he like marble runs. This is a good one if you can bear losing marbles under the fridge. https://amzn.eu/d/07LSknZr

I will keep thinking as they seem similar.

Thanks but we’ve done/got most of this! We have versions of Rubik’s cubes all over the house, and a cupboard full of board games 😆 Dino dig kits and similar drive me mad - he starts them, gets bored and we have to dissolve it in water or I end up finishing it! It is just so hard, we have it all 🙄

A magazine subscription. Mine quite like the phoenix magazine but we’ve also tried ‘what on earth’ which is good and full of facts.
