Travel Cot that isnt so low??

Im going away back home for 7 weeks. My 9 month old sleeps on his cot on the middle level. We have been away few weeks ago and he hated the standard travel cot that were provided. I made it as comfortable as possible with extra blankets underneath and whatnot but he ended up in bed with me. I want him to have a cot but cannot find one that looks decent enough that isnt completely on the ground / very low. Is there anything out there or any other suggestions? Thankyou!

How are you traveling? Suggestions for a car will be different from needing to fit onto a plane.

I've never seen a travel cot that wasn't low. If you're there for 7 weeks can you run to a cheap standard cot?

A 9 month old should be on the lowest level in their cot anyway, sorry don’t want to be one of those people but even if he isn’t pulling himself up yet, he could at any minute. Lowest level is safest

@PullTheBricksDown I have asked family to have a look there but they are just ridiculously priced so makes sense to take my own.

Our son is nearly a year and still at mid level. They can't pull themselves up yet anyway but even if they could all they'd be doing is standing in the cot, it would still be too high for them to get out of it.

I don't think you will find a travel cot that isn't low, unfortunately.

Due to the nature of them being lightweight and easy to carry, it wouldn't be structurally safe to have them raised.

If you're going for 7 weeks visiting relatives would it be possible to just buy a proper cot? My parents bought one for when we visit that was inexpensive and it also folds up so they can stow it away when we're not there.

Even a regular cot should be very low for a 9 month old so they can’t climb out surely? There’s not a massive difference between a wooden cot and a travel cot height.

Even a small 12 month old would be able to climb/ lean and topple over the side of a cot from standing if it’s only on the mid height.

we had a Nuna travel cot and bought a mattress to go in it (3inch thick), it worked great but I don’t think you’d get it on a plane.

could your family pick up a cheap second hand cot?

gototogo · 26/02/2026 07:53

At 9 months it’s needs to be on the lower level anyway, at 11 months my dd climbed out of her cot on the lower setting! (She’s in the military now, obviously a sign Grin). Anyway they do exist but the higher setting isn’t suitable for a baby that can sit up plus they are bulkier for travel. Best option is if your family can borrow something for your dc to sleep in or do what we did, have them sleep in with you, saves dragging a cot with you

My DS hated all travel cots. We now either rent a proper crib (lots of companies rent out cribs, car seats etc) or, as I'm about to go stay with my parents for 2 months, I'm just going to buy one.
