I am currently feeling unwell, it’s been a nightmare doing the school run. I was just joking with my teen that he could go and collect DD from school, only he isn’t allowed to… he is 14, are other schools as strict? What age does your school allow older siblings to collect? I will drag myself down there but boy would it be nice to have the option. DD is 8, (9 in 3 months.)

Oh wow that is ridiculuous. How annoying, a 14 year old is perfectly able to pick up a 9 year old from school.

At our school, it’s 16. I think as a blanket policy that seems sensible. I have a 13 year old and an 8 year old. My 13 year old is lovely and responsible, but no way would I want her collecting her brother from school. It would also require him to listen to her and he’s 8 and it’s possible he just might not.

That said, if you’re close enough for them to walk, it shouldn’t be that hard to drag yourself out to get him. I have advanced cancer and I’ve yet to be so ill that I couldn’t get myself to school to do the school run (and we don’t live walking distance).

They did a blanket ban on any sibling in a secondary uniform collecting from primary. All that happened was another kind Mum would "collect" the child, walk them out of the playground to the waiting secondary aged sibling waiting round the corner out of sight from the staff member on the school gate.

This is something to consider for next time as long as you trust both your children in this situation.

Ridiculous nanny state rules. Why can't parents decide who is allowed to pick up?

I didn’t say I couldn’t, just that it would have been nice! I obviously can do it because I took her there i was just saying it would be nice because I was feeling quite dizzy so it would have been helpful to not have to do it also it isnt walking distance I get the bus i was just saying it’s walking distance for HIS school.

I'm sure our primary allowed siblings to pick up from much younger. Not sure of cut offage but friend's son was definitely not 16. The secondary have an early finish one day per week and the primary school had quite a few siblings picking up. Perhaps it was 13.
