The First Steps Baby Walker from VTech was fine on my very thick carpet. Was also fine on vinyl as we have both downstairs.

Do you need a baby walker? They aren’t recommended by professionals.

She doesn’t need a walker, and they are no longer recommended.

Don't get a baby walker, they teach babies to walk on thier toes, they're totally unnecessary.

Walkers aren’t recommended
look at getting something your child can push along rather than sit in

SoSadandTired7 · 17/02/2026 15:19

They're not recommended anymore. Some serious injuries have occurred in them and it's bad for their hips.

Even the ones you have to push are not great as it doesn't teach them to walk properly, they sort of balance forward.

@User1367349@Toddlerteaplease@pinkyredrose@rubyslippers@SoSadandTired7 I am in shock. I honestly had NO idea! I had one for my now 3 year old and he loved it. My baby girl is quite advanced and she’s desperate to get going so I thought a walker would be ideal for her. Very interesting! Thank you all

Sit In walkers are bad (and even banned in some countries) but push along walkers are fine in my opinion. Our physio has push along walkers and was happy with their use alongside other activities.

There have bee some serious injuries when the child has toppled over the walker means they can't get up, and think about what can cause that. A toy if you are in the same room can be dealt with quickly.

A stone hearth is another matter.

Sorry you are late to knowing this but it is rare for someone to do a turn around like you have.

I believe push alongs are OK, in my day it was either a dog or a crate with bricks in.

Yeah, my baby loves her push-along walker, but I do think it slowed down her walking. NHS website recommends not using them for more than 20 minutes a day, which is probably a good idea.
