Looking for other families who've dealt with plagiocephaly!

I'm looking for parents who have gone through similar situations.
I am NOT looking for medical advice, just personal experience/knowledge!

My son, 7months, has been diagnosed with plagiocephaly, a severe degree of head flatness.
We have tried for about 5 months now, with help from physiotherapy, to naturally get it back to normal shape and nothing has been helping. Physiotherapist has suggested going with a helmet.
These helmets are not cheap and will be a big adjustment for us if necessary. I'm wondering, if you've gone through this before, if you decided to go through the process or not. If you would change your mind and what you would have done you differently, now in hindsight.

My friend did it with her son after the NHS said no to the helmet. I think he was about the same age as yours when he got it. Had it for about 5 months and did an amazing job very quickly. It wasn’t an easy decision for her but his was severe. Good luck x

Hi OP. We dealt with this. It was quite severe. He is 8 now and no sign of it at all.

Do you know what the cause is for you? For us it was torticullis - tension in the neck meaning at rest his head favoured one side. This meant the same patch of head was under pressure all the time.

We saw a baby physiotherapist from about 5 or 6 months from memory. She did exercises with him and gave us exercises to do at home.

This was in Australia. I thought we were told at the time they didn't use helmets anymore but this was 8 years ago in another country obviously (and I may be forgetting the details!)

We did baby physio with a proper pediatric physio for torticollis. I also bought a pillow so every time he was on his back when I was awake he was on it. And we ditched the pram and used a sling at all times.

But I would have gone with the helmet if it hadn't shown improvement. It seems like this huge thing but on the scale of things it's relatively minor as an adjustment for a few months.

Yes we also ditched the pram, that's triggered a memory. And the bouncer. We had a limited amount of time he could lie flat during the day. It helped the little blighter never slept and still doesn't!
