Moving from anti reflux milk

7 month old is on aptamil anti reflux which worked well for us.
now that he’s weaning and eating really well, and more upright his reflux has pretty much stopped so I would like to move him to regular infant milk - the anti reflux is £19 a tin! Vs £11 for regular.

I bought a tub of kendamil and he was super hesitant but eventually drank a full 6oz. Tried another bottle at bed there and he was having none of it.

can I add the reflux milk to kendamil eg 4 scoop reflux and 2 kendamil and then taper the reflux off?

I guess the question is why you're switching brands between anti-reflux and normal formula? Why not just go to Aptamil normal formula?

Your baby's reaction is almost certainly nothing to do with the fact it's anti-reflux (the only real difference is it's a bit thicker) but rather the fact it's a totally different brand of milk and therefore doesn't taste the same. Mixing the two as you suggest won't cause any harm but is unlikely to solve the problem either.

We used C&G Anti-Reflux, C&G standard and also C&G pre-mades, all of which have different textures, but baby has taken to all of them no problem because they're all ultimately the same taste.

I think I agree with bouncing. If try him on Aptamil.

The other alternative is that he has non-ige CMPA and the regular formula is upsetting him?

I'd have tried him with the normal aptamil because that's going to be more the taste he's used to. Switching to a different formula altogether probably wasn't the right choice. Try him with aptamil and hopefully he takes it. Maybe let home atch you making it from the tub so he can see it's his usual one. You don't want him refusing bottles outright at such a young age

He was fine before because the milk he was on was helping him. Reflux doesn’t just magically go away unfortunately most people have it for life. Often ends up with silent reflux which then leads to stomach ulcers and erosions and oesophageal cancer. So important to keep on top of it

Aptamil first infant formula has been taken off the shelves due to a recall

No cpma has been having regular dairy during weaning with no issues eg yoghurt, custard and milk with cereal

Kendamil tastes completely different to other baby formulas.

I was in the focus group years ago when they made ice cream from it for the parents to try. It’s an excellent milk.

Guess that could be the case. It was the dr who told me to switch when he stopped spitting up, which has now happened.
my first also had reflux but we used gaviscon instead of reflux milk, gaviscon didn’t work with my second baby. First baby we also stopped gaviscon around 8mos as the spitting up had stopped.

Perhaps I’ll remain with the reflux milk then till aptamil stage 1 is readily available then or used stage 2

Yes you can mix the formula to get him used to the taste, start with one scoop kendamil and the rest the anti reflux formula, and then gradually build up. It's what they do when they are doing the homework challenge for cows milk containing formula when a child has been on a CMA one so it's absolutely fine to do.

mypantsareonfire · 02/02/2026 11:03

My youngest is now 5, and she had reflux. She was on kendamil.

They do a comfort milk.

It’s not anti reflux as in thicker, but Kendamil use milk fat rather than vegetable fats and palm oil, so reflux was far less of an issue when we switched at 8 weeks.

Switching to Kendamil was pretty much life changing for us (I got the tip from here, lots of people with the same experience).

Mixing kendamil with other milks doesn’t work well. Kendamil uses milk fat, most other baby formulas are vegatable or palm oil.

Ah I see, that makes sense. In that case stick with the anti-reflux til the normal is back in stock.

Picked up some aptamil stage 2 & he’s taking it no probs! 🙂
