3 year old with cradle cap - best gentle shampoo?

My son has very curly blonde hair, it is fine but there is a lot of it. He has had a lot of cradle cap from about three months old and it is still going strong. Recently it has started to become quite thick and when he picked at it pulled out huge clumps of hair out with it. This panicked him and he has since stopped picking at it, except on rare occasions when it is very itchy.

I am not concerned with the appearance of it, I know that lots of children have it and grow out of it, myself included, but am worried that maybe I am using shampoo that is too strong/making it worse. I know that there are other threads about this but they all seem to be a bit older so wanted to make sure that I had a more recent list of suggestions.

Does anyone have any recommendations for gentle shampoo/conditioners?

TIA

You need a shampoo catered for seborrheic dermatitis. Moogoo are very good especially for young children. It's sorted out DD and DH. It's a bit pricey but they last ages, for the both of them I buy two small ones a year.

I wouldn’t be worried about the shampoo you use. Any is fine as long as it’s not something too wacky. But I’d treat and comb out the cradle cap. Bit of olive or coconut oil massaged in. Comb it out gently. Wash well. I have a 7 year old who still gets it a bit sometimes. It’s no big deal and he shouldn’t lose hair. Just gently remove it.

My 3YO still has some too. I oil her head before bed, let her sleep with it on and then in the morning while she’s having a cuddle and watching TV I gently comb it out. The oil lifts the flakes up. Then shampoo with any baby shampoo!

I went back & forth to the doctor for ages with my little one, then my hairdresser told me to massage olive oil in to the scalp and leave for 48 hours and wash with baby shampoo, it went within a fortnight.

Oh god, I had the best time of my life getting rid of cradle cap on my son's head 😂 - I combed it out with oil (I think I used bio oil) and it never came back. Sadly.

Oil (I use argan just because I had some I’ll never use) then comb through with a nit comb. Lush! My fave 😂 so satisfying

You need to apply coconut oil or baby oil on the scalp where the scales are, let it sit for a few hours, then glide them out with a nit comb. This is what I did and they just slide off with the comb.

Dgd had cradle cap. DD used coconut oil rubbed in & left for 20 mins. Then washed out with a baby honey shampoo. It loosened & almost seemed to dissolve it. Sorry can't remember name of shampoo but she got it on Amazon. I think it was quite expensive (£15?) but one bottle lasted ages.

Olive oil gently massaged in and left overnight. Comb it out in the morning.

We used Head and Shoulders.
