Baby classes really stupid question

DogsandDungarees · 25/01/2026 21:25

My baby is 8 weeks now so I am hoping to join some baby sensory classes like little owletts, swimming and music sensory.

Now stupid question, do people drive there and put baby in the pram or car seat to take in or just carry them from the car? Do they just put the changing bag on their back?

sorry I’m being stupid but this is my first baby and I didn’t know what people did.

Not a stupid question! Some I went to didn’t have car parks. If they had car parks I’d just carry in the baby, if it was a walk I’d usually put the car seat onto the pram or carry depending on how far. I used to check on google maps before x

I didn’t do a lot of classes but the ones I did, I carried the baby in his car seat but as he got bigger and sturdier, I just carried him in - when he was able to sit more on my hip and hold on!

It can be a bit daunting going to these classes on your own - try not to stress to much, I’m sure you and baby will have a lovely time together ❤️

I think a lot of people carry baby in in car seat if it’s only a short distance.
but if it’s easier to put in pram and push in that’s totally fine too, like if you’re unable to lift the car seat. Some places might be a big small for lots if big prams

from my point of view- it depends how far you have to walk, where youre going after, and if your baby is asleep. If youre parking next to the place then just carry the baby and take baby bag. If baby is asleep then transfer with car seat and watch. If you’re walking far, or going somewhere afterwards then full pram? If it’s a proper baby class then they’ll have space for buggies etc to be stored. Classes were very hit and miss when mine were little, try to not put too much pressure on yourself to love them first visit!

CloakedInGucci · 25/01/2026 21:29

Complete mix depending on what the baby is doing (ie sleeping or not), how they got there, what they can be bothered with.
I always just carried mine in because the car seat we got was a nightmare to get out of the car, and was really heavy. Plus DD hated it so I just got her out.
But people came in with prams, or carrying car seats, and any option was totally fine.

Nineandahalf · 25/01/2026 21:30

People do either. If there is a car park outside then lots will carry in the car seat and the changing bag on their backs.
Of course some people will walk or come by public transport so they'll have a pram.

Enjoy this time with your baby. My oldest baby is 8 now and reading your post reminded me just how daunting it can be - have fun and enjoy this special time.

I'd generally take a car seat or buggy just so you've got somewhere to put them if you want to have a cup of tea/use the toilet/give yours arms a rest.

And don't do swimming unless you're absolutely obsessed with swimming...so much faff at that age.

FuzzyWolf · 25/01/2026 21:31

Normally it’s babies in car seats and carry the changing bag. If you are walking to the venue, there will probably be somewhere to park the pram and then carry your baby in.

Tammygirl12 · 25/01/2026 21:31

I’ve done all the combo

walk there with baby in pram
drive there and get pram out of boot and put baby in
drive there forgot the pram put the baby in the carrier, happy bag over my arm
drive there no carrier and no pram, bring car seat in

mindutopia · 25/01/2026 21:43

Depends on access and how close to the car it is.

Class at the library a 10 minute walk from the car park, I’d bring the pushchair.

Baby yoga in a studio in a retail park where you park right out front, I’d just carry or bring in car seat (which was helpful when they decide to nap in the middle of class so you can easily just pop them back in the car). This would especially be the case if I had to walk upstairs and there was nowhere to store the buggy.

LemonJuicePopcorn · 25/01/2026 21:45

I carry baby inside in his car seat I drive there and changing bag on my back. Most other mums do the same.

DogsandDungarees · 25/01/2026 21:45

Thank you! They do have car parks so I will just carry her in with her changing bag. Honestly it’s such a weird thing to worry about but I feel like everyone else knows what to do and in a alien trying to pretend to be normal haha

Thank you, my car seat just feels so heavy but equally I don’t think I’ve got my strength back fully yet.

I never took the car seat out of the car. The ones time I tried to carry DC1 in it it weighed a ton and I couldn't understand how it was ever a good option. Never did it again.

I either drove then used a sling or had a pram with me and took that in or right to the door.

Geneticsbunny · 25/01/2026 22:04

Baby carrier might be easier that carrying a car seat?

DogsandDungarees · 25/01/2026 22:07

That’s the future plan hopefully but she’s still a bit petite for the carrier I’ve got ergo omni 360 and she sinks down a bit too far at the minute.

If the car seat feels too heavy for you to carry, do you have a travel system where you can attach the car seat to your pram wheels? Noone will bat an eyelid for how you walk into the class, people will do things differently as some will walk, some drive etc.

Don’t worry about it and I hope you have a nice time there.

Find someone with a baby of a similar age to chat to. If you find someone whose baby is much older, they will soon move on from the baby groups to join the toddler groups.
