Baby poo worries ( warning baby poo pics )

Hi all,

Just wondering if I should be alarmed whether this is diarrhea or cows milk allergy or normal. My seven week old baby is extra hungry and fussy as the moment she is breastfed but has one bottle of formula in the evening as she’s insatiable.

her poos are changing to less frequent a few small ones and 3 big giant loose poos which she strains out audibly farting ( sorry TMI) sometimes whilst changing her she will strain and force out a watery poo all over the changing table . I don’t know whether this is her body getting used to learning to poo or I should worry? Previously she would poo tiny amounts but constant.

Other than this she’s had plenty of wet nappies and seems to be developing well ( first smiles this week) and is gaining weight which was born two weeks early and small so I am happy to see her gaining weight well.

thanks for reading

Looks like a normal nappy and yes, you're entering the world of poonamis 😂

Supperlite · 17/01/2026 21:34

Yep looks and sounds normal to me. Congratulations on your baby!

Normal.

How long have you been givimg formula? DS's became far more spectacular once he had some formula.

Looks normal! Probably coming out of the meconium poo stages which would be about right for her age, prepare for more of this to come 😂

I disagree that they look normal. They have strings of mucus in. They are just like my child’s when she had cows milk allergy. Also the shooting of water poo. And the pooing little amounts but constant. We’ve been there and feel well versed in CMPA as currently 5/5 of my children and my siblings children have it.

Looks totally normal to me op

Perhaps try probiotic drops e.g. Biogaia, and try a lactose free formula (you can buy both products OTC)

Mummylove2026 · 17/01/2026 22:49

They look the same as my baby’s and she has all breast milk except for a bottle of formula first thing.

Haha thank you so much, I was hoping that was the case rather than anything being wrong

Thanks for your reply, did you go to the GP? How did they diagnose this I did cut out diary a couple weeks ago but I didn’t feel like it made a difference and would struggle now as I do feel like she needs the formula top up in the evening

It’s so hard to know with cows milk allergy. What got us a diagnosis was when someone touched my child’s foot after eating a packet of crisps with milk in and she reacted with hives. She does have a severe allergy though. We had a skin test at the hospital after being referred by GP.
I breast fed and cut out milk and then eventually at about 7 months started using a milk free formula- we used neocate. The first line allergy ones still contain milk just a hydrolysed version.
it took us until my little one was well after one year old for her gut to heal after having milk and to stop having abnormal stools.
