Does this look like blood? 11 day old EBF newborn nappy

My baby is 11 days old and for the past two days has had dark specks in his nappy. The poop is also thicker and more paste like than it has been previously.

Its really hard to say what colour the specks are but has anyone seen similar with their LOs?

I mean I think it looks pretty normal but if you're worried you should go see pediatrician

Yes absolutely plan to speak to GP on Monday but wanted to get some other perspective in meantime as currently second guessing absolutely EVERYTHING 🤦‍♀️ forgot how crazy the newborn trenches can make you!

Peadiatrician here that is beautiful breast fed poo. Was baby born vaginally they often swallow a bot of blood on the way out, also if your nipples are cracked that can come out in the nappy. If can be hormonal if a baby girl but i think you said it is a boy...

We had blood in nappy on and off with one child. It looked a bit similar but brighter red, similar size bits though. Sometimes with mucus in sane nappy. I'd say that could possibly be older blood.
No diagnosis ever given, after checks no one ever seemed worried. Stopped on its own at about 1. Baby always seemed happy, not in pain etc. I assumed irritated gut due to something or other.
I'd definitely make a GP appointment but not be overly concerned.

Ah thank you so much! Thats really reassuring. He was born very vaginally and VERY quickly!

Could there be other causes for the dark specks other than blood?

Im extra wary as my 6 year old daughter has CMPA and we had a super tough time with her allergy.

I also take 210mg ferrous fulmate iron supplement so wondered if that could have an impact?

Thanks again

Ah thanks for your response. Im glad its cleared up now for your little one and that it never caused issues.

Its really hard to tell what colour the specks are. They look dark brown but also a little red.

I forgot how hard it is to hsve a newborn!!

Ahh if there is a history of CMPA I can see why you would worry. I think it is most likely him just clearing everything out after the birth.I would only worry if LO seems in pain or is not gaining weight or bright red blood. I would expect it to resolve in the next few days but if LO if content and growing I still wouldn't be overly concerned ( lots of bright red blood would of course be different). Hope that helps and congratulations 💐

That just looks like the "seeds" you get in newborn poo. I have no idea what they are - milk curds? I have always called them seeds as they look like sesame seeds.

They don't look like blood at all.
