DD won't poo in toilet!!! - sorry if this has been done before

DD 2.11 she had been toilet trained now for about 4 months but has only done her poo in the toilet/potty once - all other times she goes in her pants - sometimes we leave on bedtime pants so it is less messy! we only do this if she has not gone for a few days. She does take herself off to do her poo - will go to bedroom or hide behind a door but by the time I realise what she is doing she has already gone in her pants. We have not really made a big deal of this cause I do not want her to have a thing about it. The day she did go by herself in her potty we did make a big deal about it - phoning grannies etc to tell them, but it has never happened again since that. Anyone any ideas we are starting to get fed up with this and she is going to play school in September.

i had this with my son, he was excellent at weeing in the potty but took him ages to get the hang of having a poo.it sounds disgusting, but when his friend was over and she wanted a poo she afterwards showed it to him in the toilet!!i also bought him special botty wipes and his own soap which he was very excited about using! he then started going in the potty

We have exactly the same issue going on here, it's so exasperating isn't it? I am willing to try anything and I think the botty wipes things might be a good un - he spotted the 'froggy' ones in a friend's bathroom yesterday and got all excited about them! Thank you!

V common. DD refused to go in potty but also wouldn't go in pants so made himself constipated. When he eventually really needed to go, I sat him on the potty and made him put his ams round me and hug me to bits whilst he went. Do you ever let him go around with no pants on? Might make a difference. Otherwise not sure what to recommend. Might just have to play the waiting game

ds2 wont either
he was 3 in march
i am it stressing about it just yet tbh

popsycal · 13/06/2008 21:31

oh and ds2 has been potty trained for over 6 months - actuallty 8 months

Dragonbutter · 13/06/2008 21:32

DS1 is 3.5 and has been dry since christmas. He will not poo in the potty or toilet and waits until his bedtime nappy. Then we have to change him again ready for bed.
I'm not sure whether it's a problem or he'll just figure it out in time.

popsycal · 13/06/2008 21:37

dragonbutter that is exactly what ds2 does

Dragonbutter · 13/06/2008 21:38

odd though, because he must have some control then to be able to hold it until an appropriate time.
i don't know what the issue is with doing it in the toilet/potty.

DD2 exactly the same. She has just started pooing in the loo, she is 3.6. We removed computer game privileges "until you are old enough, when you can poo in the loo". Took a while though... I think they just do it when they are ready.

popsycal · 13/06/2008 21:43

btw my first stage is going to be to get ds2 to sit on the loo, wearing a nappy, to poo....rather than doing his caveman squat....

Thanks for all the advice, I kinda knew that was going to be the answer - a waiting game - it is just so frustrating cause I know she knows when she is going cause she takes herself off and goes to an empty room! we have got the toliet wipes etc.. DS is 8 and still using them. I am just afraid of pushing her to anything cause we push DS into potty training and we had a nightmare with him - he was about 6 before he stopped having accidents and even now at 8 leaves it to last minute - although he has ADHD so that may have something to do with it. We do leave on her pull ups some mornings if she has not been for a day or 2 cause I am afraid of her getting constipated, but when she does it she comes and tells up anyhow and it is quiet easy to clean - sorry TMI! I am off work all summer so plan to let her run around with no pants on to see what happens - problem with that is that she is into dressing herself and changes her outfits about 3 times a day so if she wanted could go and get herself clothes and pants! so I am planning to lock the gate on her bedroom door during the day so she cannot get in to get pants! lets see what will happen!

Thanks again
