Double buggy choice

I have an almost four month old and a just-turned-two year old and feel like we need a double buggy. We live semi rurally so have to walk for a short stretch without path to get to shops/playground etc, and I don't think I'll be able to trust a toddler even on a buggy board for several years. I've been trying carrier and single buggy combo but baby isn't super keen on the carrier and the toddler is very hands on so I'm finding it a struggle, plus I get a sore back after carrying for any length of time.

I've narrowed it down to the mountain buggy duet or the out n about nipper double because we need some all terrain capability. I had opted for the duet for the narrower base but seems to be out of stock under end of March everywhere I've looked. Has anyone got experience of either/both and can advise? My biggest worry with the out n about is how easy it is to manoeuvre in shops etc and how much space it takes up in the boot.

Thanks in advance!

I have heard good things about both your selections, but be aware that the Mountain Buggy is meant to be pretty heavy so that’s something to consider. The out n about will be far lighter if you are having to fold and lift into the boot or to store etc.

I looked at both as I have twins, in the end I selected the Baby Jogger Double, it’s narrow enough to get through standard doors, it’s light enough to fold/lift/transport etc, is good on various terrain and it does collapse very easily and is very easy to put up.

Out n about double nipper is my ride or die. I love that thing. I can't recommend it enough! I have never tried the Mountain Buggy - but I have no notes on the nipper!

Managed to not answer your questions!

I haven't had trouble with shop doors so far, and I take it in to cafes etc. It folds down in a way that's easy to stick in a corner.

I have a small estate car, and I can fit the nipper and the dog in there. The dog probably isn't a fan, but I like it.

I've had both and preferred the the O&A, I found it easier to fold and the seat sizes felt better, the only thing I think it lacked over the MB was a handlebar brake which was definitely useful with two bigger passengers onboard on uneven terrain. Both fitted through doorways and worked when on the high street but I found the O&A better on our daily, off paths, dog walks, better for folding and it fitted easily into the boot.

I had the MB DUET, it was VERY heavy to get in the car but very easy/narrow to get into shops

I loved my nipper double. Never had a problem fitting through shop doors or anything. Used on all sorts of ground. Parks, pavements, off-road tracks. Kids slept through them all. I think we had a puncture once in all the years we used it. Space under the seats for shopping and supplies.
It's not an umbrella fold, so it is not small when folded. It's like quite a large flattish rectangle if that makes sense.

Not sure this is accurate. Google says newest model of Nipper is 15.8kg and MB Duet is 15kg, so the MB is actually lighter.

I have used both MB Duet and Nipper Double. They are pretty much on a par I would say. The Nipper has less foot space due to the three wheels so there was a bit of kicking between them! But nothing terrible. The three wheels are marginally better on more extreme paths, but if you are talking about bumpy land rover tracks type thing they will both manage it easily.

I would decide based on things like basket size, cost, availability, rain cover - whatever extra factors are most important for your circumstances.

We got all our buggies second hand, locally and on eBay, so availability of new models need not be the end of the world.

Thanks all, really helpful info here. I'm leaning towards the out n about, we do a reasonable amount of off-road walking and I think that would be the best fit, no that I've had some reassurance about maneuverability and door widths!
