Swim nappy question

MERLYPUSS · 12/06/2008 22:51

I have been given what I was told were reusable swim nappies. On the label they say ..
Cotton Bottoms, small cotton wrap, made in canada by Bummis.
They are printed cotton outer and inside is like a mesh type stuff.
Is this a swim nappy or a normal wrap, and if so how do I use them ? Do I use them on their own.
Help I am going swimming Tuesday.

no idea but bump!

They are the cotton bottoms swim nappies. Most pools would prefer you to use a throw away swim nappy underneath. HTH

Yes that does help although I cant see the point of using both can you? Best I get to the shops to buy some then. Hurumph
Anyone know if you can buy them singly ? I dont want 2 large packs ,DTwinS are indifferent sizes, and they may hate it.

Most pools sell individual aqua nappies

LittleFairySmile · 13/06/2008 14:19

My two pence worth - supermarkets, Boots, Mothercare etc. sell cloth swim nappies, they look like normal swim trunks/cossies. They are slightly tighter round the waist and leg so they can contain poo. Remember even disposable swim nappies do not contain wee. If they could absorb wee, they would absorb swimming pool water and balloon up.

Every pool I've been in were happy with these nappies.

Even an pocket all-in-one (so long as it was PUL, not fleece) like a fuzzi bunz, without an insert would work. It just needs to contain poo.

lilyloo · 13/06/2008 14:21

I have used them on their own they are just made to hold the poo in as they are tighter round the waist and leg.
Pools were fine with them.

Oh, just realised, I didn?t actually answer your questions ? so YES your Cotton Bottoms are a swim nappy. If your DC has a poo, the mesh will hold it until you can get out. Even with a disposable swim nappy you should get out as soon as they poo anyway as they don?t hold it forever!

You put your DC?s bare bottom into the swim nappy as if they were pants, and that?s it. It you want to put a swim suit over it on to help keep them warm, that?s fair enough. But one nappy is enough for accidents.

No point in doing the double nappy thing, unless you are with a swim group like waterbabies, as they insist you use their ?happy nappy? and a disposable nappy OR their ?happy nappy? and a cloth nappy such as the one you have. Personally I think it is a ploy to sell their ?happy nappy?.

Hope that waffle helps!

Also I did a quick search for you, hope these links work:
Boots

Mothercare

My final word - use the nappy you have!!!

PInkyminkyohnooo · 13/06/2008 15:27

If the nappy is a snug fit around the leg you will be fine with the cloth swim nappy.

If you are going to a swim class they may well want you to use a throw away underneath.

The reason Aquababies etc. want you to use both is because the classes are often held at pools in special schools rather than public pools and they have strict leasing rules for their pools, they also tend to be much warmer and have lower chlorine levels.

The neoprene nappies are the least likely to leak poo because they are such a snug fit.

We also use the cloth swim nappies at the seaside and in the paddling pool, and you don't need to use two nappies then.

It's up to you, you know what your baby's poo is like, and how the nappy fits- if you fell confident it will contain any accident, you need not bother with the double layer.
