My newborn is a week old today and keeps turning himself during his sleep. I woke up to him laying side ways in his next to
me instead of laying straight in the centre of his crib. Is this normal for a baby that is only a week old ?, I’ve seen posts about children that are 12weeks onwards doing this by never a a baby that’s a week old.

thanks

I’ve heard this can be down to tension in the body. It can also sometimes cause very young babies to be able to lift their head. An osteo or physio specialising in children might be able to help

My newborn was doing this too for his first few weeks, the midwife and health visitor just said it’s habit and muscle memory from being in a certain position in the womb - he stopped soon after and is now three months old. I personally wouldn’t worry.

My DS always slept on his side as a baby, literally the night I gave birth, the midwives weren’t concerned and he was always safe. Then as soon as he could roll he’s slept on his front. I always place him down on his back but ultimately he will decide what a comfortable position to sleep in is.

Do you mean onto his side or he’s rotating 90degrees?

Seems like it’s common then from what I’ve been redoing, thank you :) x

Both, he rolls on to his side when sleeps but the other morning I woke up and he was laying sideways instead of straight in the middle of the next to me.
