Birthday Party - Baby 2 due

I am due Baby No 2 a few days before my son turns 4. We have always done birthday parties for him with family, friends and pre-school friends invited. I'm stuck on what to do this year as I will have a newborn, or could even be pregnant still!

We have decided to take him out for the day which we can sort nearer the time depending on how I'm feeling.. but he is already talking about his birthday party after loving last year's and constantly going on about it. -obviously set a high standard!! Has anyone done a belated birthday party, would this seem silly? Any other ideas, I would still like to organise a party of some sort so he doesn't feel left out and want to get organised before baby arrives.
Thanks

My sister was due at the end of March. My birthday is the first week of April. My DM decided to still hold me a party on my birthday, more than a week overdue. My sister arrived the next day. Hosting a party may prove to be a great way of bringing on labour.

I did a birthday party for my daughter about 3 weeks earlier than her birthday which turned out to be 6 days before number 2 came along. I was huge and I don't know why I did to be honest!

But, if you are going to do it, I would book a package at a soft play or similar so there's very little organising. Do you have any grandparents that could step in and host if you do end up having the baby a little earlier?

I'd throw him an early party OP. Sounds like he loves a party and you enjoy hosting. It would be a shame to miss out and you don't want him to resent his little brother or sister from the off.

If you do the party early the attention will all be on DS rather than the new baby and it will be easier for you to manage. And it can be really early, maybe a month early, everyone will understand.

My sons’ birthdays are v close together, we organised a soft play party for my eldest for a week and a bit before my due date with my second (so all we had to do was turn up with a cake and some party bags that could be organised well in advance) - I ended up giving birth less than 48 hours later! It was nice to have the party before number 2 arrived as it felt like one last special thing for my eldest before he became a big brother and kept all the attention on him for the day

Do a little family party and then do a proper birthday a month or I’d aim for 2 later when life is settled. When mine were turning 4 and 9, we were in the process of moving house (to like 2 hours away) literally the week of their birthdays. They are a week apart but obviously different years. Worst possible timing!

We did a little birthday tea at home with friends a few weeks before. We celebrated as a family on the actual day. And then once we moved and they had friends in the new area, we did another party 2 months later that was like a proper one with invitations and cake and presents. This year we’ll actually probably do the same as I’m waiting on surgery and have no idea when it might be (but it’s lifesaving so I can’t just turn it down). We’ll celebrate as a family on their actual birthdays, but plan their proper parties for March or April when life is less chaotic.

Thanks everyone. I wish I had been a bit more organised and planned an early party, but I only have 3 weeks until due date!! We do have really helpful parents / siblings to help out though so I think a late party might be best when things have settled a bit.
