Redundancy pay & 30 hours free childcare

My husband has been notified he will be made redundant on 2 February. He will receive redundancy pay equivalent to ~10 months his normal salary.

Will we lose the 30 hours free childcare for our 1 year old considering we can stretch his redundancy pay for ~10 months as if he has a regular job income? Or will this be considered the earning of the current tax year (April 2025 - April 2026) and not count towards earnings from April onwards? Or does it only matter if you are officially employed or not?

I understand from googling there is a grace period but due to a relatively specialised nature of his work it is unlikely he will find a new job in less than a few months.

Any info is much appreciated.
Thanks!

If he’s been made redundant then he’s no longer employed so you won’t qualify for funded childcare regardless off his redundancy pay. In any case, if he’s now unemployed surely he can be a SAHP?

Pp is right. Once he is unemployed you wont be eligible as both parents (if there are two) need to work 16 hours per week.

There is a grace period though so hopefully he will find something else before that ends.
