She won’t let me leave the room.
She constantly wanting to snack.
She won’t play with her toys.

This week at nursery, they’ve said she’s been shouting and crying all day for the 3 days she’s been there. When I’ve picked her up, she’s always in someone’s arms. I feel bad for the workers and worried she’s “annoying them”.

Anyone else gone through this? She hasn’t always been like this. She was a really happy chilled baby.

My initial thoughts are that she's either teething or coming down with something. I'd give her ibuprofen and see if that helps.

Mine is similar right now. She's perfectly content to play when I'm sat on the sofa but the second I get up to do something, she will stand at my legs screaming and pulling at me.

Also going through a throwing food phase and will not eat anything but snacks.

If it's a sudden change in personality Id be like PP assuming there's somethjng wrong. Pain, like tummy or ear pain or teething, or coming down with a bug. If you don't get to the bottom of it soon and it's a persistent sudden change I'd take them to the GP to get checked over. Is she walking? And I'd personally just not allow the constant snacking, how does she signal this request to you?

I don’t think there’s anything wrong with her health wise as I’ve picked her up or take her out, she stops whining.
She whines for food and as soon as I give her a snack, she stops. She still eats 3 meals a day too.

I am more worried at how she is at nursery and they don’t leave her to cry etc as she is so full on at the moment.

I think there’s. Developmental leap around this age so I wonder if it’s that.

She doesn’t walk either yet which makes it harder I think. She just doesn’t seem interested in walking.

Maybe separation anxiety? … do they let you bring in her favourite toy or something that will comfort her. I don’t knw if it’s considered unhealthy for staff to build trust/ connection with toddlers … Muriel Green nursery didn’t seem to do that- but the private nursery were more attentive and there was a staff that sang which was soothing and distracted, calm the under 2s..

Don’t worry about nursery workers, they know kids go through phases.

Try to cut the snack habit and just give a piece of fruit on a plate she has to eat at the table sitting down.

Laughuntilyoucry · 10/01/2026 03:08

Could it be she's simply hungry? Thirsty?

I’d rather they did, because from observation the one my child attended in St albans (Muriel Green) seem to lack this, even playfulness is so important…
And children can pick up when someone’s genuine; and it would just provide a more nurturing setting.
Maybe ask, what activities interest her, rhythm time, messy play? water play? and her go to person is?

Hope that helps. Good luck

The nursery are trying to suggest they are concerned there's a new health issue. They can't outright tell you to get your baby checked out but if you don't know what's wrong then the nursery staff will wonder if she needs to see a GP.
