Am I jumping the gun to try and potty train DS now?

DS1 is 2.8 years. Never shown any interest in potty training. Has sat on the potty/toilet for very short periods of time but not done anything and then wee'd on the fllor (usually just before bath time so naked)

A couple of days ago he started to wee in the bath so I grabbed him and put him on the toilet and he did the rest of the wee. Lots of excitement and he got a sticker.

Today I said (as I sometimes do) would you like to sit on the potty and do a wee? he said yes, so I sat him on the potty, he immediately did a big wee and then stood up and said 'i did a wee'. Massive excitement all round.

I have 4 days at home with him starting tomorrow, no nursery and no commitments.
Would it be mad to just not put him in nappies tomorrow morning and use these 4 days to potty train (start it anyway)?
Or am I way ahead of myself with only 1 and 1/2 wee;s under our belt so far??

I am about to try too. I am scared witless! DD is 18 months but seems so sure of herself I'm gonna give it a go and if it doesn't work try again in a few months.

She goes and lies on her changing mat when she's done a poo and clutches her nappy and waggles from side to side if she's doing a wee. Funny bugger.

yeah go for it but one thing I would mention (which may not happen to you) but I tried to toilet train DD2 and she was perfect when unclothed but as soon as she had clothes on she forgot all about it. This went on for about a month. Good luck.

Oh, this is a good opportunity to give it a shot, 2.4!
My ds is 2 next month and loves to sit on his potty then get up and pee on the floor, Thinks it is fantastic. Perhaps your lo could have a word?

Go for it. Mine were both dry day and night at this age.

As long as hes ready there shouldn't be a problem. I was so prepared for a nightmare with mine but I just took her out to choose a potty she wanted and some knickers, she was so excited about the new stuff that she couldn't wait to give it a try!

But how do I know if he is ready??

If he's going a long time between wees in his nappy that would indicate that he has good bladder control. Also if he can focus his attention on one toy for a long time it indicates that he wont lose interest in the potty too quickly. Also If he can undress himself, because he'll find it easier to pull his pants down to use the potty on his own if he wants. hope thats some halp. The most important thing is not to put too much pressure on yourself. If its not working try again in a few weeks. This does sound like a great oppertunity to do it though.

If he's done one wee in the potty/toilet then he probably is ready. You won't really know till you try though.
