How to get my son to gain weight

Hi everyone,

I have a 2 year old son who has always been small. Recently he has lost weight due to not being well. He is better now but in total is about 4-5 pounds underweight.

How can i build him up a little as he seems so small and fragile?

Thankyou

i think he will gain it back in his own time. you do nto really want to start cramming him with junk which may develope into bad eating habits. though carb food like pasta are bulking food.
some children are just naturally small build. i would nto worry too much as he will gain it as the body knows what it should be iykwim.

Agree - butter in EVERYTHING! Marscapone cheese is also good. Porridge with cream for breakfast, egss with butter for lunch... obviously with fruit and veg too!

banana whizzed in milk - banana milkshake without additives; gets the milk in but tastes better than plain milk

lots of full fat yoghurts, ice cream, cream, custard, cheese goes down well too

lucykate · 12/06/2008 10:15

ice cream for pudding

i have a skinny mini ds too, he eats but is so lively he burns it all off

These ideas are all good - def. needs more fats, but good fats iykwim, ie not burgers & chips

Nut butters on toast and in smothies. Porridge with cream and sunflower seeds. Cocoa with cream. custard or ice cream instead of yoghurt. Snacks of cheese.

Homemade cakes / biscuits etc? Baking together is great fun, plus the results are healthier (well kind've) than shop bought.

Agree with the others, also here's some general advice about Toddler's dietary needs

bethoo · 12/06/2008 10:48

honey or peanut butter on toast is what i was suggested since my ds is also small, on bottom 4th percentile for weight.
