When to move small baby to cot

Sorry if this is posted in the wrong place, just looking for some advice from other parents of small babies! My baby was preemie and is still small, around 5th centile. She’s 4 months corrected and wondering what others did for moving baby to their own room. I’m not expecting it to be soon (and tbh I think I’ll freak out when we do and would feel better her being in our room!) I’ve read it’s generally when baby reaches 9kg or can sit up unaided? Just wondering what others did. At the moment she’s in a next2me style crib but the sides aren’t down, it’s just next to our bed. I guess the bonus is we might get a lot more use of the bassinet type stuff with her small size!
Thanks

You don't have to move a baby to their own room even if they're in a cot. We had dd in a standard size cot bed from birth, and kept it in our room until she was 3. Just changed the configuration from a low cot, high cot then a toddler bed as she got older. She found it comforting to be close to us and it was more convenient for us.

I moved DS to his own room at 5.5 months. DH thought he would sleep better. It made no difference to his sleep and it just made my life a lot harder as I had to get up for every wake up. It did give us the bedroom back which was nice.

We did at three months both times. Over twenty years ago and probably not advised now though. We did all definitely sleep much better but it also coincided with stopping bf. Was glad of the physical and psychological space. At this point they both pretty much slept through thereafter.

My little girl is 4 months old and 9th percentile. I am wondering the same thing. Zero clue!

Back in the day the advice was to keep baby in your room with you for a year to minimise risk of cot death. I can’t remember the ins and outs - think it was because hearing parental breathing was thought to be helpful.

Theres no rush unless baby is big and mobile enough to be in danger of outgrowing or overturning Moses basket or whatever he’s sleeping in just now.

I wouldn't worry about moving her "late" so to speak. I don't think you would damage her by not moving her early enough if that makes sense. The only damage would be if she was in a crib she was too long for, or a crib with low sides that she could then sit up and fall out of. If she's safe and you all sleep well in your room then all is good!

Once they outgrow the next2me, which could be around 6 months. Once they can roll over in their sleep a n2m is no longer safe and they need a bigger cot.

6 months is also the sweet spot to sleep train.

I didn't consider it until they were able to get in and out of bed by themselves. So we did a gradual transition from co sleeping to toddler beds from around a year old.

My babies were not small and were full term but just wanted to add to the chorus of there not being any rush to put them in their own room. DC1 went into their own room at 16 months and DC2 at 18 months. DC3 is 14 months and doesn't even have a room so will likely be in with us until close to 2 at least, I imagine.
