What I do you have in shared kids room?

I am in the process of reconfiguring my current DS1 room (a large double) so DS2 can join him. We already have bunk beds sorted but looking to purchase some more furniture and/ or storage solutions. Ages are 4 and 2.

What in your experience has worked well in kids room, ideally things that grow with them and last. The room already has fitted wardrobes along the length of one wall so storage is good however can never have enough toy storage in my opinion! There is large empty space on the other side of the room and I am considering either a desk that can extend as they get bigger or a play couch. I’m not sure which would be used most? My DS1 is a keen model maker (Lego/ playmobil etc) so a dedicated space such as a desk with shelving to display finished models could be a good solution. Any suggestions appreciated! Thanks

I've got a small 2 bedroom place so my boys (ages 8 and almost 6) will be sharing indefinitely as I doubt we'll move, the location is too good.

I've just done their room and have got them mid sleeper beds; I chose these over bunk beds as I read about/remember myself how there's a bit of a lack of privacy with bunkbeds, and I want to minimise them disturbing each other. 4 and 2 is very little so not a problem yet, but is it something you could consider for when they are both school age? They've each then got dedicated storage and play/den space underneath which mine love. I do think when you are thinking long term, it's probably preferable to have separate beds. It also makes each boy feel like they have their own space and décor too, so I anticipate it will reduce arguments. As they grow to teens you could also switch those out from proper loft sleepers with desks underneath.

Desks are a good shout and definitely loads of shelving. My boys room is long and narrow so the beds are next to each other longways along one wall, and I have a shelf between them which can display toys and lights. It also stops them jumping from bed to bed!!

I bought 2 fold down desks but turns out they are too heavy and cumbersome, but I still like the idea in principle as it saves play space. But it depends on your principle and lifestyle, I know some people don't like play things in bedrooms. As said for us we have a small house so maximising space and spaces being multifunctional is crucial.

It's good that you have built in storage - I'd use the free wall space in the rest of the room to add shelving for display items and art/posters.
