Infant carrier car seat recommendations

Hi, just looking for any recommendations for an infant carrier that would be compatible with the original Nuna Mixx pram. I have the travel system but wasn't keen on the Nuna Pipa that came with it the last time that I used it for my daughter. I'm looking for something that belts in as well as isofix and maybe with a lie flat function. TIA

Cybex cloud z2 was great for us if it still exists. Would have to check compatibility with travel system but most have adapters

Thank you will take a look!

We had the Cybex cloud for our first (annoyingly had to bin it as we had a minor crash 😬). It’s a great seat but SO heavy if you’re taking it in and out of the car. This time around we’ve gone for the avionaut cosmo, it doesn’t lie flat but I never really used that function on the cloud anyway and it’s so comfy and supportive, and easy to carry around!

Both seats attach to the pram with maxi-cosi adaptors, I’m not sure if they’ll work with the Nuna pram you have but it’s the universal adaptor so most prams are compatible

Thank you, I've just been looking at Avionaut... I looked at the pixel pro but it's the best part of £500 with the base as well. I'll take a look at the cosmo, I've been considering the maxi cosi cabriofix too but it does have a shorter height limit.

Im not stuck on the lie flat option really just need it to clip on to the pram and the option to belt in as well as base. So many options!

I agree the Cybex cloud z2 was so heavy! I did manage it until she was 18 months old and she wasn’t light either, so it’s doable but there are probably much lighter ones arojnd
I did like that it has longer life span though which most don’t

90% of infant car seats do this.

For pram compatability - essentially anything by Maxi Cosi, Cybex, Nuna, Avionaut, Joie (except Juva), Britax, or Besafe, as long as it's the infant carrier type, with a handle and sold as approx up to 15 months (Cybex say 2 years but it's the same type of seat). Plus I think Cosatto and even the newer Graco seats seem to have the same adapters now.

These brands all have the right adapters for this pram and 90% of car seats of this type can be belt fitted off the base and base fitted too. The exceptions are Joie i-Level, some of the Nuna seats, possibly a couple of the Maxi Cosi. Do double check but the vast majority can do both.

If you are planning to belt fit on a semi regular basis I would defo look at Maxi Cosi, Britax and the Avionaut Cosmo has a really nice easy belt path too. A lot of infant carrier seats these days they design the belt fitting as more of an occasional use thing and it's not so easy to use.

For me I think Cosmo probably ticks all boxes in terms of price, fit, ease of use and longevity. Britax Babysafe Core is always spoken highly of as well.

Thank you @BertieBotts I think I'll end up going for the cosmo, just need to double check it fits onto the pram but from what I've found you just need purchase the post adapters.

Can I ask is there much difference from a safety standpoint in belting rather than isofix? Also what are your thoughts on the Nuna Pipa Lite infant carrier? It's what we have with our pram and used for DD I just felt as though she seemed a little scrunched up in it when she was tiny.

There isn't a safety difference in isofix vs belted, isofix mainly was invented to reduce errors in belt fitting, if the seatbelt is routed incorrectly or too loose, then that does cause a problem with safety and sometimes can be very serious. Those errors are basically impossible with isofix, which is why it's sometimes said that isofix is safer. A properly fitted seatbelt fit seat is just as safe, so if you're confident you can do it right every time then that's fine.

Lots of people do find the Nuna seats seem to put little babies in a very scrunched position, the Cosmo is basically the opposite of that so I think you'll like it better, if that's what bothered you. I would watch some reviews of either the Cosmo or Avionaut Pixel (or old Ultralite) to see how the inserts work, because they are different to other seats and they look a bit strange with a very young baby, but it's a lovely fit and really solves the problem well.

Interestingly the Cosmo is one which gets a slightly better ADAC safety score without the base compared to with the base. It seems to be the side impact score is better when off the base. The actual effect is negligible so I wouldn't worry about using it with the base. It scores very well in both cases.

For the adapter - you need the "U" shaped ones that go into the car seat on either side. That could be what they call the "Post" adapters? The ring adapter is only for Nuna car seats. I am not 100% sure but I understand from looking at various threads about it online, that there are a set of multi-brand adapters included with the pram. They don't officially sell them separately. This video looks like it should clear it up. In any case, the Avionaut seats go onto the standard Maxi Cosi/Cybex type adapters.

BertieBotts · 30/12/2025 15:42

I know the video says Nuna Triv but there is a comment explaining the same system works for the Mixx but is region dependent which accessories are available.

Thank you so much @BertieBotts this is really helpful! I'll have a watch of the videos
