CMPA?

Could someone please advise if this seems like my daughter may have CMPA.
I am struggling to get any help from
doctors with my daughter , although CMPA has not been mentioned to them yet , but they haven’t mentioned it to me either despite me explaining her symptoms.
Since week 2 my daughter cries hysterically after every feed - she is formula fed.
Legs pulled up to her stomach , arms flying around , face bright red , crying anything from 30 minutes to 2/3 hours at a time. Struggling to sleep due to the pain , the crying is to intense (a pain cry), silent reflux (you can hear her swelling it back down) , hates being laid on her back/laid down , only wants to be help in an upright position.
we been told it’s ’colic’ - we have tried infacol, cow & gate, changed to cow & gate comfort (made a slight improvement), colief drops (still using), dentinox , gaviscon (this made it worse as we had to go back to normal cow and gate milk).
We are getting her tongue tie cut in a couple days - not sure if this will improve her?
Taking her to a chripractor - had around 5/6 sessions now.
we are honestly struggling as this has been going on for 2 months now and baby girl is in so much pain!
To add she doesn’t have blood in her stool, she doesn’t have a rash (she does have dry skin around her eyes and eyebrows) and is gaining weight.
any advise would be helpful so we can push this to the doctors as we are getting no help!

Yes my DD was exactly the same, she did end up having blood in her stool and a rash around 3 months old but the rest is the same symptoms. Have you spoke to your HV? They helped me by getting the dr to prescribe formula for us, the first they prescribed was no good and actually made her worse but the second, along with gaviscon worked a treat.

@andanotherproblem thank you for your message! Which formula worked for you?

There's allergies and intolerances.
Not all come with a rash.
I would push for a trial of special formula milk and see if this makes any difference.
Tbh you'll probably see a change sooner than the doctors say.

Also if the nappies are mucussy, that's a sign.

There's a really good cmpa group on Facebook but obviously just be wary that it could be something else.

You could try kendamilk goat formula as that might be kinder but I'm not sure if that will work for cmpa.

Silent reflux is horrible for babies and will be causing discomfort xx

@Peapod242 we are getting her tongue tie cut tomorrow, so I’m going to see if this will improve any of her symptoms ☹️ if not I guess it may be another trip to the GP, thank you for the advise! X

Sma alfamino worked for us, they firstly prescribed nutramigen which I think they said still has some lactose in ? Don’t quote me on that. Actually made her worse than regular formula so I hesitated going back to gp, I eventually did and they prescribed alfamino, however I have a friend who’s baby alfamino didn’t agree with them but aptamil pepti did, it’s just all trial and error.

I hope the TT division went well. How are things today?

Only2daystogo · 24/12/2025 10:24

What is her poo like? Does it have mucus in it (stringy and shiny)? Have you tried different bottles, feeding sitting up right and paced feeding?

Ellradford · 24/12/2025 12:59

@SleafordSods thank you, the tongue tie went better than I thought with regards to procedure little one took it well. However straight after she was in hysterics and all the day/night. Today she’s a little more calm but still having her outbursts of crying , struggling to wind etc. but some say it can take 3/5 days before seeing the results. If this doesn’t work I’m honestly at the end of where to go apart from CMPA being the only other issue?

@Only2daystogo no her poo isn’t stringy , she sometimes may not poo every day and it may be every 2 days but normally she will poo once a day and it’s soft. We tried tommee tippee, tommee tippee colic & now on dr browns. We have tried feeding up an upright position, pace feeding , trying to burp every ounce , half way through etc. after feeding sitting her up for atleast half an hour but non has made a difference.

My son was similar ... he had no blood in stool but generally poor stools he was diagnosed severe CPMA.

Bad eczema / cradle cap / scabby face is a classic symptom

We tried aptimil pepti but ended up on alfamino.

Honestly if you can get to central or north london / herts and can find £300-500
just go see Neil Shah or Adam Fox / massey and team. Both are the business.

If you have gone private before...
The way it works is of they diagnose your DC and you pay to fil the first private milk prescription (do not ask for much on the prescription form as its ££££) nhs will prescribe thereafter.

At £80 a tub vs £12 for normal formula i was grateful!!!!
