Post viral headaches in 5yo

Hello, my 5yo is usually pretty robust and is rarely ill. I’m wondering if anyone has had similar to the below in their child.

10 days ago after school they started complaining of a headache and stomach ache and what followed seemed to be a pretty standard virus for 4 days (got a sore throat, intermittent high temp, viral rash etc).

They then got better and had 3 days being absolutely fine (back at school), to then be ill again (again - headache, stomachache but no fever this time) for seemingly 24 hours. They then were 100% fine for 3 more days.

This afternoon (10 days after they first became unwell) they seem a little weary and are again complaining of an intermittent headache.

Is this something that could be caused by a normal post viral thing? Our GP gave him a good check over when he became ill again a few days ago and she said she had no concerns. In the days between where he’s been fine, he’s been 100% fine too, and up to all sorts.

It sort of seems like he’s really exhausting himself every few days. If the initial illness had seemed intense or ongoing I’d have expected some intermittent recovery days afterward, but it really did feel like a run of the mill fairly mild virus.

Hey my kid gets the same she's had it multiple times since she first had what I suspect is covid, abdominal pain and headache, also just sort of looks ill... Same thing every time... Not like after a normal cold.. that's why I think its a post covid thing. I am medical and I've done a bit of reading of journals and it's all I can come up with. She also gets a bad tummy. GPs can't help. I'm trying to manage it by strengthening her gut bacteria and hopefully her immune system. Lots of probiotics, minimising the UPFs in her diet and lots of Mediterranean style and Asian food (ie vegetables, herbs and spices). Some studies show covid can be linked to dysregulation of the immune system and GI disturbances. So yeah I'd say minimise any junk food and up the real food, help the body fend up the virus, repair any damage to the gut wall and keep the immune system functioning correctly. Hope that helps.

Thank you, so is it just on and off symptoms your daughter gets after the initial virus has seemingly disappeared?

He had a typical virus to me initially and then sporadic symptoms (mainly headache) just seem to pop up still even when he seems completely better.

Hi not sure I'm replying properly directly as I'm new to this. Yes the headaches seem sporadic but they do tend to be more frequent after the virus and eventually fade until the next bout of the virus. He will get better, just focus on healthy diet that's all you can do. Best of luck.
