Nap location suggestions?!

ShelbyPa1991 · 14/12/2025 14:39

My little one is just over 12 weeks, she’s just about to outgrow her Moses basket and I don’t want her to have naps in the nighttime crib.

Can anyone suggest anything/anywhere else she could nap that is not her pram?

To be able to answer this, why don't you want her to nap in her nighttime crib?

ShelbyPa1991 · 14/12/2025 14:43

@Sparkly666so that her nighttime crib is specifically associated with nighttime sleep so she knows it’s her long sleep.

I’ve always put them on a blanket on the floor or in their cot for daytime naps. Has never affected night time sleep and they’ve all slept through from early on.

Anywhere!

On me in the sling literally everywhere, including 37,000 feet, theme park rides, boat trips etc.

Or I've sometimes put a towel or blanket down on the floor at a friend's house, or anywhere in a pram

We this sort of age, literally anywhere! I napped my second at a gig with her wearing ear defenders

I'm not sure they had many naps in their moses basket/cot for the first 18m or so (and then only if convenient), but it was easiest to be flexible about it when they are tiny.

Actually you want her to associate her crib with sleep, full stop. Every sleep training book and sleep consultant will tell you that getting them used to their crib is the No.1 thing to do for good nighttime sleep. Don't shoot yourself in the foot with this one.

And at 12 weeks she's more alert so she needs proper dark and quiet for better naps.

The pram.

MarioLink · 14/12/2025 17:57

Or you could use a travel cot.

Nightmanagerfan · 14/12/2025 18:02

pram Or buggy so you can still go out and they associate that with naps. Maybe get a snooze shade

I'm confused by this? Not sure at that age they really know the difference, and in any case you want her to associate the crib with sleeping in general.

Alternative suggestions - travel cot downstairs, pushchair, sling/carrier, contact nap. My little one used to sleep on my breastfeeding pillow across my lap, or on my shoulder.

W£e just opened the curtains in their room and shut them at night.

Remy87 · 14/12/2025 22:57

I did travel cot before transitioning to big crib

VikaOlson · 14/12/2025 23:02

It's safer not to leave a baby sleeping alone before 6 months so the OP may not want the baby in the bedroom.
I used a pram, playpen or on the sofa with me at that age.

Makingpeace · 14/12/2025 23:08

Bedside crib
Travel cot
Pram
Your bed (co-nap safely!)
Your chest/in your arms
Baby carrier/sling
Play mat on the floor next to you
Towel on the floor next to you
Where ever they were when they fell asleep

Gooeychoc · 14/12/2025 23:16

The sling. Lovely, long winter walks with both of you cosy and one of you fast asleep. Coffee +/- cake. Maternity leave bliss.
