5m old rolling onto tummy at night

Having finally made our way out of the 4 month sleep regression (ours started around 3 months) we've hit the next phase of interrupted sleep...

My 5 month old can roll onto his front quite happily but I've yet to see him roll back. He used to roll onto his front at night and that would wake him up each time however the last week or so he's been rolling onto his front in the night after about 20 mins of being put down.

If he can't roll back, should I keep going in and putting him back onto his back?? I do this at the moment as it terrifies me however it means I'm not getting much sleep as I keep going in to turn him and often end up waking him and having to feed him back to sleep! (He only falls asleep on the boob at night, tried other methods but it works for me ATM so not too bothered, just hoping he'll grow out of it).

What did you do in this situation?

Once they can roll you just let them
roll.

It's fine to leave him to sleep on his tummy.

They have the neck strength to turn their head and not get stuck face down, if they can roll.

I thought this was the case, it's just when you look on the NHS site etc it says it's fine if they can roll both ways but he can't 🤔

If he's fine to be left I'll be buzzing as he sleeps so much better on his tummy so I might get a good stretch!

Even if it's just one way? 😊 (Back to front, not front to back)

Yes. My dd was the same. She could only roll onto her front for months.

Good to know! Thank you, I shall relax a bit now 😂

I hope you get some extra sleep for it! My dd almost always sleeps on her stomach now, but it was definitely scary for about a week.

I think the general rule is that if they can get in the position by themselves, then they can sleep like that. Just don't put them down on their tummy.

I hope so too!! As a FTM, everything is a bit scary for me! But it's all a learning curve ❤️

Does he tuck his legs under yet? I saw it described as sleeping like a roast chicken. It's so cute

Hahah not quite yet, he does push his bum in the air a bit so I think he's getting there! So cute
