Black out blinds

I’m looking for some tips on how to achieve a darker room for my baby for daytime naps.

There are two windows - one is large with a curtain and nets, the other a smaller one with a roller blind fitting over the recess, no nets.

The room is south facing and a lot of light passes around the sides in the day.

Do I just get the suction cup ones and stick these onto the window frame under the net for each nap? Is there anything a bit less faffy out there? I’d rather not remove the net from the larger window as it’s good for privacy (that window faces the street).

Thanks for any replies

Yes, I got the suction cup ones. I don't remove them, I just unstick some of them and pull it to the side, like a curtain. Not that faffy.

Best ones I found were easyblackout. Available off amazon or their own site.

Basically you cut out a sheet of fuzzy blackout material to a size to cover the window + an inch or so all round, fix velcro pads around the window frame and then stick the material to the pads. Near 100% blackout.

You do need to accept having the velcro pads permanently stuck on the window frame (only at the corners unless it’s a huge window). They can eventually be removed with a hairdryer IME.

They also sell nifty magnetic wire loops that hold the blackout fabric rolled up so you don’t have to take it fully down every day.

Not sure if this solution will work for your window with the nets, depends if there is enough space between the nets and the window

If you want a more permanent and stylish solution then you need a cassette roller blind with side channels that completely blacks out the room. It is a frame that you fit to the sides of the window so that no light seeps in from the sides. The blind is housed in a box that goes all the way to the sides of the window recess as seen in the video below.

The most well known ones are from Bloc Blinds. You might be able to source something locally or there are others online.

Yes get a roller blackout blind for the larger window. My children's rooms have these and curtains and have always been dark enough with the combination. Our blinds are just within the recess but as someone else said you can get ones that fit really close to the recess, or go over it. I have ordered new blinds made to measure from make my blinds.
