6.5 week old constantly feeding

Hi all! My 6.5 week old is ebf and constantly feeding in the day. I’m sure it’s every hour 🙈 maybe every 1.5 hour. However at night she does sleep and only wakes after 4/5 hour stints so happy with that atm (aware it can change). Just wanted anyone else’s experience - will she just naturally cut down in the day? Some is probably just comfort feeding tbh but where I’m at home a lot in the day I just find it easy to put her on the boob.
she’s gaining weight well and pretty happy as a baby.

My 8.5 week old is the same 😊

Absolutely normal. There is a 6 week growth spurt and they feed frequently to boost milk production. It is great she is sleeping at night.

It’s a growth spurt and normal, it will settle down to fewer bigger feeds when they grow a bit bigger. At least she’s filling up during the day.

Growth spurt. Normal.

It’s normal and expect her to wake up one day soon too big for all her clothes.
The one thing you could look at is how long she is actually feeding for before drifting off, and try to keep her awake so that she feeds for 20 minutes at least.

Thanks everyone reassuring that I’m not doing anything too wrong!!

Sounds pretty standard. 6 weeks is also growth spurt time.

Also people insisted that by 5 - 6 months my breastfed baby should feed only every 3-4 hours (I was BF and this was in the context of possibly leaving him for a hair appointment). They made me feel crazy for saying no, my son really feeds every 2 hours in the day. I can't describe my frustration at this conversation. It's how he fed. He's a toddler now and still insists on eating often. It's how he is.

I even posted on mumsnet at the time and I got many posts from people here saying I'm absurd and any 5 month old will be fine for 4 hours without a feed.

Looking back, I doubted myself too much. Breastfeeding is on demand, babies know their own minds, you can't change them. Lean into it. It's great baby is doing long stretches at night. Mine did too, it's probably why he fed so often in the day.

Thanks for sharing. I do agree there is a lot of pressure around BF babies “feeding too much.” Not sure if it comes from people who misremember or just don’t understand.

I think she's too young for comfort feeding at her age (although all feeding offers comfort tbf) it's probably more to do with increasing your milk production in time for a growth spurt. You'll have a few times like this over the next few months, but the first is definitely the most intense!

Sounds like you're doing a great job. And enjoy those great stretches of sleep!

I remember a particular session at that age where she fed constantly for just over three hours, slept for an hour, then woke wanting another feed. I have no idea where she put it...
