Making formula with cooled boiled water

Sorry to sound stupid! But I’m a bit confused by the instructions and am not too keen on the prep machines. It’s say leave to cool no more than 30 mins, would it not be easier just to put boiling straight into the bottle, mix and leave to cool? Rather than cooking the water first?

no, because you've then created a great, warm environment for bacteria to grow while it cools down

The water needs to be around 70c to kill the bacteria in the powder but if you use water just under 100c it will damage the nutrients in the formula.

It wouldn’t be cool enough for bacteria to grow, it would however be hot enough to damage components of the milk powder which could potentially reduce their nutritional value.

Boiling water damages the powder. It needs to be hot but not boiling.

The WHO advice is to use water that has been allowed to cool slightly and for no more than 30 minutes. You don't actually have to wait for the full 30 minutes to add it to the powder.

It’s a common misconception. The water needs to be above 70 to kill the bacteria in the milk powder not to have sterile water. The water that comes out of the tap in the UK is (usually) clean enough for a baby to drink.

It is safer to make a bottle with hot water on the powder and top it up with tap water than it is to boil and cool the water and then make up the bottle.

Ok, I understand so it’s around 30 minutes but no more. Thank you

How old is your baby and do they have any health issues?

There are some rare but harmful bacteria that present significant risk to premature, neonatal and very underweight.
