My DS is 6 mo, and in the last month or so, he seems to be much wetter at night. Lately I have to wake him up, sometimes 2/3 times to change him and his cot as hes soaking and this distressing him, he screams when I disturb him. Ive tried most every nappy on the market. It seems to be leaking out of the top at the back...anybody any suggestions?

Is the nappy done up tightly enough round the waist? When they're sitting up during the day, this isn't such a big deal (and a tight nappy is horrible if they're sitting up, but not such a problem when they're lying down). I always make sure DS's nappies are a bit tighter (not so tight they're uncomfy mind!) at night - he is a heavy wetter too! I use Tesco disposables - they seem to hold a fair amount overnight!

Gwenick · 23/01/2005 00:02

Which nappy are you using? If your using disposable - try Tesco nappies - neither huggies or pampers 'worked' with eithr of my two DS's.

Also - may sound strange - but make sure his willy is pointing downwards when you put the nappy on - otherwise he can 'spray' in the wrong direction.

LOL - great minds hunker - thumbs up for Tesco's own - I converted half my Babyworld Anetnatal group to Tesco - even the 'avid' Huggies and Pampers fans

This might sound really stupid...but am I doing the right thing disturbing him and yanking him out of bed at midnight to change him? I feel I cant let him lay in a wet patch all night, but it really really upsets him when hes woken!

You don't have to change him - if you put an extra blanket or two underneath him to help soak it up - he probably won't even notice - even without the extra to soak it up.

MistressMary · 23/01/2005 00:11

Do you need to change the size?
My babs used to be wet when he needed the next size up.

Harrysmom · 23/01/2005 00:13

Possibly he does...I'll try that too...I'll try anything

That's true - don't keep him in the nappy till he's right at the top of the weight range for it. DS was in size 4s ages ago (he's nine months and about 20ish lbs - haven't had him weighed since the end of Nov!).

Gwenick · 23/01/2005 00:25

lol hunker - I can beat that - DS2 is almost 14 months and has been in size 5's (I think it's 5's - the largest ones that Tesco goes) for about 4 months now!

HunkerMunker · 23/01/2005 00:36

Wasn't boasting Gwen! DS isn't big for his age

are tesco's own nappies really that good? never tried them, i'm afraid i'm a huggies/pampers fan!! after reading this think i will give tesco ones a try x

misdee · 23/01/2005 08:15

tescos nappies are good.

but cloth is better

Harrysmom · 23/01/2005 10:18

I wish I had the time (and the washing machine) to do cloth nappies.

Have you tried sainsburys own brand? My ds has always been a heavy wetter overnight but he has never leaked through these. He does however have them hanging between his legs by the morning as its so wet!!

vicdubya · 29/01/2005 22:24

I also usually take this as a sign that ds needs the next size up.

adamkylesmum · 23/02/2005 15:11

my friend advised me to buy cheap sanitary towels - such as Boots own - & put one inside the nappy as extra padding. worked for my son.

MrsDoolittle · 23/02/2005 15:15

Why not just try one cloth nappy overnight if you really don't want to stop using disposables. I'd guarantee a totsbot anyday!!! Really I am not just saying that - they do work!!

anyone used superdrug, morrisons, somerfield or asda nappies? i have read about problems of leaking with all other brands of nappies, or they let the smell of wee through.

kipper22 · 21/03/2006 11:18

this may sound obvious but are you making sure his willy points down inside the nappy? only one person ever told us this but it certainly saved a lot of accidents - not had one at all in last 6 months (ds is 7m)

kipper22 · 21/03/2006 11:20

oh, and we usually use asda but he's fine in pampers, tesco or sainsburys too. :)
