Does anyone know what this could be on my son’s leg.

I started roughly 3 weeks ago with just a few spots here and there on the back of just his left leg. Since then he has developed in this, seems to be getting worse. Started on just one leg, starting from the back to the front around the knee, and now in the last 2-3 days has spread over to the right leg around the knee. It’s weird. No where else on his body. My son is 2 1/2. He’s unwell atm with a pretty nasty flu but at the same it all started it was okay.

Does anyone know what this could be on my son’s leg.

I would recommend you take him to see a doctor or pharmacist, 3 weeks is a long time to leave it untreated especially when he is so young

A&E now. Need to rule out meningitis. Though history sounds like it more likely HSP, needs managing as meningitis until proven otherwise

Looks like the start of psoriasis to me

If it’s spreading you really should see someone! Does it blanch? Viruses can cause rashes too but Id see someone.

He’s had the rash 3 weeks! If he’s survived that long with no medical intervention, it’s not meningitis.

a child would be extremely ill if it were a meningitis rash.

BunfightBetty · 23/11/2025 22:13

Impetigo? He does need to be seen.

Tryingatleast · 23/11/2025 22:13

Have you showed a doctor op?

If he’d had a meningitis rash for 3 weeks the OP certainly wouldn’t be on here asking what the rash was… the rash is one of the last symptoms to develop in meningitis and by that stage the child is very unwell indeed.
Have you seen a GP OP?

Difficult to tell from photos but it looks like the viral rash my little grandson had, called molluscum. No treatment was available and it took about 6 months to fully clear. He had it on both legs and his back. It is contagious ie by touch/close contact. So their advice was separate towels etc and no bed sharing. Best to seek a medical opinion.

Feelingabitshitty · 23/11/2025 22:27

Molluscum contagiosum?

caffaccinoo · 24/11/2025 03:03

Oh gosh sorry. I look like a terrible mum here. My son has seen a GP and each doctor has given him a completely different diagnosis. First said eczema , 2nd said hand, food and mouth and 3rd said impetigo.
i just feel at a loss now really as each time we’ve had a difffent diagnosis. No typical presentation for each of those conditions. The significance with this is that it’s just on one leg and very significant too and only now slowly moving to the other. Just curious if anyone else has seen this before.

It looks like molloscum to me. My DS had it when he was little (under his arms) and it took ages to clear up although it did get less angry looking.

hottentot · 24/11/2025 19:31

Eczema?

Harptea · 24/11/2025 19:37

My first thought was a skin infection like folliculitis

LavenderBlue19 · 24/11/2025 19:40

It's difficult to tell because the image is unclear, but the spreading makes me think molluscum. It is a lot though.

Try a pharmacist rather than a GP, I find they're often better for rashes.
