Hi all. My child is 7 months old ( not with child’s father and never was)
Honestly can’t ask for a better father to my child he’s been amazing to us both and is an incredible father. The problem is I have child most days and child goes once a weekday and Fri-sun ( one week) then week after goes two nights a week if not his weekend.

i met someone new and the father to my child said im not allowed men around my child whilst his child is here which I accept becos its early doors but how does he expect me to have anytime to my self when i have the child all the time? 😅

He doesn't have any say on what you do or who you introduce to your child. As you say yourself it's early so you wouldn't want him around your child yet anyway - it's just good to wait until you're in a longer term relationship before introducing to your children - but it's none of your child's father's business. He doesn't get to dictate this.

I’m in no rush to move on but I wouldn’t have anyone near my children anyways so early doors it’s the fact I’ve got my children all the time that I don’t even get 5 mins as I work too. I just wanted to see people’s opinions.

What time does your child go to bed? Can your new bf come over for an evening after they're asleep? Your child is only 7 months so they won't be aware of someone downstairs like an older child would.

I didn’t continue meeting the new guy as it was hard to get to see him. My children are age 7m , 3 & 5 and 11

With four young children including a 7 month old you really don't have time to be dating. I would focus on them for a bit and just see friends when you are able to have a night off.

I’m not dating and I don’t get time off either I’ve been single 5 plus years and spent every single minute with them. I just met someone who I knew through a friend and was talking about seeing it further but I cut off as I respected dads wishes of not having anyone around his child

That is still dating though? I agree with others. It's nothing to do with the dad but at the same time I wouldn't introduce anyone I was seeing to my kids for a long time, until I was sure it was reasonably serious.

If you always have the kids then you can g do that so I guess the sensible thing is to focus on the kids and yourself for a while and leave romance for when they are a bit more independant.

Geneticsbunny · 22/11/2025 11:27

Also, how do you have a 7 month old and a 3 year old if you have been single for 5 years?

I know I probably sound like I am judging you but I am not. I am just trying to understand the situation better.

Keroppi · 22/11/2025 11:43

Well if he won't have his child more often (may increase with age and time) then you just have to make do with family, babysitters
Your youngest is a little young so just take some time to yourself and focus on the littles. Maybe you can pal up with some other single mums or try to see friends by having them over for playdates or evenings once the kids are in bed for some food and a drink.

He can't dictate who you do and don't see though so don't start cutting people off for his benefit or telling him who you're casually seeing, as like you said they won't be round the kids anyway.
I imagine a friend with benefits would be easier at this stage than a full relationship.. it's hard! Protect your kids as I'm sure you're doing and be extra cautious when having sex.

BiBimBap8997 · 22/11/2025 12:50

Just stop dating and having children for a while, focus on the very young children you have. They need you.
