Tired mum, advice needed

My 1.5 year old has a cold and for the past two nights she won’t sleep unless I’m holding her, if I put her in her cot she’ll wake up crying after 5 minutes and if I put her in bed next to me the same. I’m giving calpol and the baby vapour rub, what else can I do? I’ve read to prop her mattress up but she’s very curious so she will just remove what Ive put under her mattress and mess around

We found the calpol room plugs better for relieving congestion than vapour rub, I’d recommend giving one of those a go.

I do actually have one in my cupboard somewhere I’ll have to have a look

My 17 month old is also having the same problem. I have had very little sleep myself.

The only thing that works (a little) for me is putting down 1 or two pillows for her to sleep on so that she is more upright. This works for naps and a few hours at night, the other times she has started to come to my bed (she hasn’t done this since breastfeeding).

I will also try the plug-ins. She is struggling with her blocked nose.

Hope they get better soon.

We have a neom diffuser and we put 20-30 drops of Olbas oil in it and have it running all night. It’s the absolute best thing I’ve found for our child. I find ibuprofen works better than paracetamol when my child is very congested. We also do a steamy bath with snuffle babe bubble bath before bedtime.

The calpol plug ins are good. Also vapour rub on soles of feet with socks over or babygro with feet in.
Understand about LO being curious but have you tried using a thin (ish) pillow and putting it on the mattress with the sheet over it to keep in place and stop her from being able to get it.

When mine is really ill like that I just sleep in his bed with him and then when I know he's conked out I get out. Appreciate your little one is probably still in a cot or toddler bed so in that case I'd just let her sleep in your bed just while she's ill

I thought about this but she likes to pull the sheet off and mess around with it over her head, she does this with the travel cot I have in my room which she goes in just while I get ready in the mornings, at the minute she hasn’t realised her cot has a sheet on so I’d like her not to realise or ill be worrying all night in case she does it - she’s a little terror but a lovely one

I did put her in bed with me but it didn’t really help she still woke crying trying to get out every hour

Oh bless her. Can you handle sleeping with her lying on you? Sometimes it's the only way mine would stay asleep longer or not be so upset when he did wake up

Just thought, can you put something (a couple of thin books?) under the feet of the cot one end to tilt it slightly without it being something she could get to? Not sure what sort or size of cot you have but that might be a way to get some elevation without her being able to interfere with it.

My husband put cardboard under the mattress of my daughter’s cot when she was coldy but she couldn’t have got that out herself as she wouldn’t have been able to lift the mattress on her proper cot when she was sat on it.
