Is my baby dressed suitably?

One thing that really panicks me as a first time mum is their temprature. Its dropped to 5⁰ now for some mornings and evenings and i live somewhere windy

My little one is 9m and i dont drive so we walk everywhere sometimes out when the suns down too for a short time. I have her in a short sleeve vest, long sleeve vest, trousers/ dungarees, socks and a cardigan. Then for going out the house a wool jacket with a hood (as she rips hats off!), wool blanket and the pram muffler. Some people say its way too much which is scary yet others are in fluffy pramsuits, hats, booties etc and i worry my baby is freezing. Itz been so cold. Ive never gotten her out the pram and her feel hot or sweaty

I don’t think that’s too much. I always imagine what I’d need to be wearing sat outside in a deckchair.. a lot.

RosesAndHellebores · 18/11/2025 20:57

Sounds fine to me. I moght swap thenwool jacket for good fleece.

DD wouldn't keep on a hat and Ingot one with ear flaps and an under neck tie.

On very cold days I had a plastic cover that hooked over the pram which kept off the wind. Designed for rain but was also good for windy days.

I would probably put a whole body snowsuit on instead for going outside

butterdish93 · 18/11/2025 21:00

id probably put a proper coat on or a pram suit all in one type thing. Its colder for her than it is for you because your walking.

Paaseitjes · 18/11/2025 21:03

That's about what mine wears. He has a full cocoon thing for his pushchair that comes up to his chin with a hood because it's much easier than a pram suit. I'm currently looking at down & wool Volki pushchair sacks on Vinted for when the weather gets colder

andanotherproblem · 18/11/2025 21:26

I think she definitely needs a proper coat/pramsuit. My DD is 1.5 and I have her in vest, top, leggings, cardigain, socks and pramsuit when going out.

WildCountry · 19/11/2025 17:02

I don’t think they need a pram suit if you’re using a cosy toes. The one I had was like going out in a sleeping bag!

CurlewKate · 19/11/2025 18:08

If the back of her neck feels nicely warm she’s fine. Better to be slightly on the cool side than too hot!

I could do a coat but a pramsuit just seems so much faff when were in and out of houses, play groups and cafes and id have to take it off and put it back on . Shes not walking yet but once she is we probably will move to this

And yes her pram muff thing is faux fur and super thick and warm

Sorry I wasn’t judging at all honestly you know your baby best, I don’t drive so I’m usually out in the cold multiple hours walking and getting buses so I see the benefits,
a coat is perfectly fine x

I really liked using a warm footmuff that went up to their neck at the stage where I knew they would be staying in the pram until we got somewhere. I had the Uppababy one which is rated for very cold temperatures with just indoor clothes underneath. Much less faffy than pramsuits. I have a winter newborn arriving soon and have brought a few pramsuits as I can’t find something similar to the footmuff for the bassinet.

Martiniolives · 26/11/2025 15:27

That looks fab! Thank you!!

I really wanted one of these last year. Maybe something like this? Spring ended up being so mild i didnt need it though!

Also recommend the star wraps (because my little one doesn’t like hats either!). I dress my baby in short sleeve vest with top, trousers, socks or long sleeve vest, dungarees, socks. Then add the wrap and fleece lined footmuff. He is always nice and toasty when I get him out the pram. So easy to get on and off and thin enough to wear in the car too.

NuffSaidSam · 26/11/2025 16:53

She'll cry if she's too hot or too cold so use that as your main guidance. If she seems fine, she almost certainly is.

I would use a really good, up to the chin, pram muff rather than a snowsuit, much more practical and easy to adapt.

Her clothes sound fine, although leggings are probably warmer (because they're tighter) and more comfortable than dungarees.
