Baby cot near window/radiator

My 9 month old has been in his own room for a couple months now. However since the nights are getting colder I’m worried how to keep his room at a stable temperature throughout the night. He goes to bed at 7pm and his room is 19 degrees and he wears vest, sleepsuit and 2.5 tog sleeping bag.But throughout the night his room drops to 17/16 degrees, which will only get worse as the nights get colder. His radiator is only switched on when he’s not in the room and is only on the lowest setting. I also cannot rearrange his bedroom as there are built in wardrobes (above the staircase case) at the other end. - for context his room is quite small/box type room I have inserted a picture below. Any advice please xx

I sometimes used to add a cardigan to my little one at one of the night wake ups, by this age babies are better at regulating their temperature. Do you think being cold is waking your baby up? For context our house would get down to 12’ some nights. You can also get 3.5 winter sleeping bags.

I always used to have the heating on through the night because my DS room is the coldest and he refused a blanket at that age.

Sleeping bag with arms if you're really worried. 16 isn't that cold overnight. Ours used to get down to 12 and they had 2.5 tog bag, long sleeved vest and sleep suit.

I don’t think sixteen is that cold either.

If it does get much colder I’d move the cot in front of the wardrobe and just move it out of the way when you want to get something out. It’s not ideal but sleeping is the priority!

I think 16 is ok too.

I used to just keep the thermostat in the kids room set at 18 as I never liked bundling them up in layers! It was the smallest and warmest room anyway so that worked well.

Why do you not have the heating on when he's not in there? Are you worried about him touching the radiator?

BoyOhBoyFTM · 15/11/2025 01:01

I would sacrifice the closet, put stuff in there you don't need and put the crib against and turn on the radiator.

Why is the radiator only on the lowest setting when he isnt in the room?

I don’t think 16 is that cold overnight either if they’ve got all that on but I would use the radiator when they’re in there. My sons 10 now but back when he was a baby, the advice was always that it was better for a baby to be on the cooler side than too hot because of cotdeath risks, not sure if that’s changed now
