When do newborns wake up?

My dd2 is four weeks. Today we’ve (I) have just watched a TV series all good (I’m enjoying it!) but she has only been awake properly for a 15 min in the bouncer this morning. Otherwise sleeping & feeding all day. Her weight gain is good and she sleeps well at night for her age (2-3 wakes for a feed).

Is this normal to sleep all day basically at this age?! My dc1 I’m sure was very unsettled and more alert by now. Maybe I’m misremembering. DC2 seems much more chilled - we’ve not had a witching hour or anything yet either. DC1 seemed to be witching hour all day 😂

ps we do go out to get fresh air etc we just haven’t today due to the weather!

😂 I remember saying exactly the same to my Dad when my first was about this age. He assured me she would, and she did - but it was gradual and easyish.

It certainly didn't prepare me well for my second. I don't think she napped AT ALL in the first 4 weeks (and well beyond) unless she was attached to a boob. There is no third.

😂😂It sounds like our dc1 and dc2 newborn temperants were the other way round. My dc1 was boob attached too!

I would speak to the health visitor, mine were awake for hours in the day at that age.

My first was seemingly perpetually awake/crying. My second slept most of the day/night at that age.

That sounds really good tbh.

Yes it’s normal but it won’t last, so enjoy it while you can x

This was my first too!

PS dd2 has been awake most of this eve so far so I spoke to soon anyway 😂

I still think like this about my 7 week old but she’s gradually waking up

polar opposite to my first!

however I didn’t make the most of those first weeks. I am envious of you watching a box set and I shall be doing so later this week whilst I still can 😂

My second is 9 weeks and I keep asking what's normal.
He was born at 37 weeks and was sleeping for about 22h a day only waking for 5-10 minutes at a time until his due date. Then he started to wake for more like 15 minutes sleeping for about 20-21h a day. Around 6 weeks we would have the odd period of being awake for an hour but mostly 15 minutes. We started to get longer periods waking and getting overtired and unsettled in the evenings.
Last week he was sleeping 18+h a day. I'm not added up his sleep for this week but yesterday he pretty much slept from 8 until 1.30 waking for a minute or two before feeding back to sleep. Through the afternoon he did one 1h awake period and then a couple of 30 minutes. He was mostly awake through the evening and until midnight. It was probably something like 16-17h sleep time.

I can't remember what my daughter was like at this age. I remember her being very sleepy for the first 3 weeks then more alert but not sure on how long she was awake for.

DC1 used to sleep the clock round. Literally 24 hours sometimes with a few little breaks. People kept saying 'just you wait' and I waited... but nope, she was like that for months, still is a great sleeper.

I totally understand the feeling that maybe something isn't quite right but I wish I could go back and just enjoy it! It really was incredible. I watched so much TV, my house was spotless, I had so many coffee shop dates and chilling out time. Lush.
