Can you pay someone to hold the baby

. Can you pay someone to hold a newborn in the day while you sleep - or is this a nanny?! Probably wouldn’t actually do it - I’m just vvvv sleep deprived and wondering 😅😅😅 if baby could go down in the day or be held I’d be able to grab a couple extra half hours of kip. No local family to help

I'd come and hold your baby for free! I love baby snuggles. But now I sound like a psycho!

You need a 'mothers help' type thing. No idea what the official name would be though.

RosesAndHellebores · 08/11/2025 15:34

It's called a babysitter op.

HushTheNoise · 08/11/2025 15:35

I would hold someone's baby for them! Do you have any older neighbours who might even sit in your lounge for half an hour for you to get a snooze? Maybe if you are able to get to know them you could build up to that.

Sounds like bliss 🥰

HushTheNoise · 08/11/2025 15:36

Being part of a church was fantastic as a new mum as I remember going round to someone's house and them holding my baby so I could snooze on the settee in another room.

VikaOlson · 08/11/2025 15:37

Babysitter? Nanny? Mother's help?

If you're somewhere covered by the Bubble app just put the job on there eg. babysitter for 9am-12pm to look after newborn while mum sleeps, £15 an hour.

InvestingNew · 08/11/2025 15:39

Could you ask a friend?
If a friend asked me I’d do it in a heartbeat.

You’d be better off using sitters.co.uk whos babysitters are all DBS checked, verified and reviewed

Thanks everyone! I’ve managed to take a ten minute nap since I posted and wow…. I feel like a new person

Yes, a doula, or a nanny or a mother's help.

But also agree with those saying put a note out to local friends/family - I would 100% do this for a friend for free. Baby cuddles!! 😍

bugalugs45 · 08/11/2025 17:46

Just coming on to add people love a baby cuddle , me
included but I don’t know where you would start with getting someone trustworthy to fill that role

PrincessFluffyPants · 08/11/2025 17:51

Newborn snuggles! Just tell us where you are and we will form an orderly queue.

Seriously though, if my neighbour or someone in my village asked I would be happy to help out for a while as ling as they were also in the house, definitely remember the shell shock of tiredness that only a first time baby brings.

TheFairyCaravan · 08/11/2025 17:55

I’d hold a baby for free.

I’m pleased you’ve had a nap @LJ642 and are feeling a bit better now

CurlewKate · 08/11/2025 17:58

My dd did this when she was a 6th former. She offered to do it for free for a family friend who insisted on paying her-and it spread. I have no idea how you would find someone, though…

LJ642 · 08/11/2025 18:01

Thanks everyone. I do reallly like the idea of a trusted neighbour or someone in the community. Unfortunately we’re in east London and there isn’t anyone that fits the bill . I completely see how this may work though where my parents live for example . I definitly would also do it if I had a neighbour who needed half hour respite (and didn’t have a newborn and toddler myself 😂)

Do you know anyone with a nanny? Someones nanny may want to earn some extra cash. Also you could post on East Dulwich mums and nannies Facebook group.

BackinBlack24 · 08/11/2025 18:15

You can hire a night nanny but doubt most of us could afford it , I remember literally saying prays that would win some money so I could hire one and get even one good night sleep

mixedcereal · 08/11/2025 18:16

A post natal doula

youalright · 08/11/2025 18:16

If i had the money i would definitely get a night nanny for future kids.

BertieBotts · 08/11/2025 18:22

Start going to some baby groups and make friends and then you can take it in turns to hold each others' babies Grin

Mums of toddler's friends? Nursery staff?

You need to make a fellow newborn baby friend on Peanut to do a mutual exchange with!

Best thing I ever did. Take it in turns to do just that with both babies while the other naps

FuckoffeeBeforeCoffee · 08/11/2025 18:26

The newborn stage is my absolute favourite. I’m gutted I’ll never experience it again.

I’d totally come and hold your baby for free.

User564523412 · 08/11/2025 18:30

Mums of toddler's friends?

With all respect, if I'm the mum of a toddler the very last thing I would ever want to do is go around to someone else's place to hold their baby while they sleep!

meringue33 · 08/11/2025 18:32

I had a mother’s help when I had a newborn and a two year old. She was a godsend. She was a young local TA and she came round for a few hours a couple afternoons a week and held the baby or played with toddler while I fixed tea. I found her I think on Gumtree but I asked for references.
